hello,
i installed several times in the last days devuan ascii and beowulf.
used "mkusb" to install to usb (look for "install to debian" version) and had no problems with netinstall64bit.
problem only with beowulf-live image 64 bit that gave errors during installation and after insatllation it booted the old linux (that was meant to be replaced) as if nothing was installed over it. i am not sure if i made an error but to me it seemed the live-installer was faulty.
maybe someone can confirm this?
Hello,
i would need to install probably
"nvidia-driver" instead of "nouveau" for getting proper opencl support ? on devuan.
it seems however that the nvidia-driver is installing, but not finding the proper space after reboot (error related to kernel)
my question:
is it possible to install nvidia-driver on devuan (ascii or beowulf) , especially for older cards?
thank you.
the graphics card "Quadro 770m" should be supported by legacy driver for nvidia?
https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsD … cy_GPUs.29
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
Hello ,
i tried to install a program on my laptop running beowulf 64bit,
and in the process i went to install first the package
nvidia-opencl-icdand afterwards
nvidia-legacy-340xx-driverfor nvidia quadro 770m.
however, on both packages i got errors,
like
dpkg: error processing package nvidia-persistenced (--configure):
installed nvidia-persistenced package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
nvidia-persistencedafterwards i de-installed the nvidia-opencl-icd, and the graphics went back to normal (after process of installing the opencl package the resolution got downsized from 1920x1200 to 1280x800), however the error with
nvidia-persistenced
still remains.
Thank you very much Rolfie,
this has been solved!
firmware-linuxwas missing, the one-liner filled it up.
Now the program starts!
Hello ,
today i tried to install this software Svp4linux on devuan beowulf on pc with amd a10 apu (bristol ridge).
it seems the APU is not very good supported on Debian / Devuan, but maybe i just made an error during installation.
however, the program would not start and i get the following error
21:09:19.633 [I]: OS: Linux 4.19.0-11-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.146-1 (2020-09-17) x86_64

If anyone know an help, please post.
thank you very much.
wow, thank you for your answers and help tips!
i have now installed beowulf on it and i am really impressed on how fast the system is!
small ssd is doing also some magic here.#
only the graphics maybe could be a bit better - i was shortly testing with debian stretch (debian 9) and with the legacy-nvidia driver it seems there is a bit better fps in unigine haven benchmark - maybe double framerate, not fully; not that i am so happy with closed-source drivers, but was wondering wat the workstation graphics can still give.
benchmark on devuan is low with nouveau but system is very stable and responsive!
Thank you all for making it posible @Devuan.
Hello ,
i have an older workstation laptop with dualcore2duo cpu and NVIDIA Quadro FX 770 m.
Was thinking of installing Debian Wheezy on it, because it supports the Quadro FX 770m, but it would be nice to have a newer OS to support it.
Could i install Devuan and still make good use of the Quadro FX 770m? Are there any drivers for it on Devuan?
Thank you very much.
thanks,
this has been solved by removing
libgnutls-deb0-28and reinstalling
curl githello ,
i had upgraded the laptop and now on ascii and beowulf there is error with git.
it would complain of missing gnutls-handshake.
downgrading to libcurl3-gnutls from jessie resolves, but opens up other issues.
what can i do to resolve this issue?
error is like
fatal: unable to access 'https://github.com/FFmpeg/FFmpeg.git/': gnutls_handshake() failed: Public key signature verification has failed.why has debian fallen? what is the problem with debian?
Hello ,
i would need to upgrade this laptop to jessie from debian wheezy.
here is the sources.llst

Hello ,
the link to upgrade to Jessie is no longer accessible.
Please make it accessible,
Thanks.
Hello ,
i have several older computer running Debian Wheezy and wanted to know if it would be possible to install the (refractainstaller)
on debian wheezy to facilitate the making of an custom iso for install on other pc.
Thank you very much!
Thank you,
problem has been solved by upgrading to Ascii.
The energy consumption on battery seems quite similar, so my previous observation might have been wrong.
Suspend on Devuan Jessie XFCE4 did not work on the T400 when closing the laptop-lid, but only when evoking suspension through the power button or by typing "pm-suspend" in terminal.
On Devuan Ascii however, the suspension also functions when closing the laptop-lid.

on a Thinkpad T400 i installed Devuan Asciii and everything seemed to function just fine (Suspend, Trackpad etc)
however, upon launching *powertop* i noticed that on Battery there was a discharge around 20W which seemed way to high to me (for a Laptop with internal graphics only on a Centrino Duo CPU (P8400 or P8600).
Therefore i tried with with Devuan Jessie and interesting, the powertop now reports around 12W on reduced brightness which seems OK to me.
So i think on this laptop Devuan Jessie is a good solution;
Trackpad can be manually enabled with the help of Debian Wiki
https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebia … Trackpoint
however, i noticed that the *Suspend* does not work out of the box, and even when i change the settings in XFCE (which were not setted to *suspend* upon closing lid), nothing happens.
Does someone know of a package i might miss to get this functionality back?
thank you very much.
thank you,
yes, the error was probably on (my) mac-side.
resetted the whole network settings on the mac by deleting the respective *.plist and now the network sharing is functioning correctly and the mac is also shown in the devuan network.
please mark as solved.
this is the cups as it is shown in ubuntu 20.04 (on the same computer)
and here the cups in devuan beowulf
i think i had enabled ufw but it is off at the moment.
thank you,
i have not read this manual ![]()
but on the rock64 on the cups webinterface
http://localhost:631i had enabled to share the printers on the network.
Hello,
i have a small SingleBoardComputer Rock64 that i am trying to configure as a Print Server with Ubuntu 18.04 and CUPS for my Epson Et-4750.
The Printer is configured in CUPS @Rock64 where it is connected physically via USB cable.
The printer however is not shown in Devuan in CUPS at his location @Rock64.
It is recognized as Network printer (generically) because it is connected via Network Cable to the Router, but not specifically the Rock64 Configuration is shown.
Thanks chris2be8,
i have also a NFS share activated on the macmini,
but this also does not show up on Devuan Beowulf when i click on "Browse Network"
hmm, i don't know,
i already had installed
like
sudo apt install gvfs*i have mostly resorted installing all packages
bluetooth*and
blueman*when bluetooth was needed.
it seems there has been not so much progress with bluetooth, especially when one wants to use alsa-only.
However, blueman may be gnome specific, and not inclueded in Devuan?
it always seemed to me that with gnome, bluetooth was neatlier integreated, but i would also prefer KDE over it.
