#2 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » no sound on gnuinos » 2023-10-31 13:28:55

I created a file in /home/*** and pasted the following command into it then renamed the file to .asoundrc.

 pcm.!default card 1
ctl.!default card 1

Then I restarted the computer, but there was still no sound, so now amixer-gtk does not work.

I tried to write a command from the site
https://www.alsa-project.org/wiki/Asoundrc.

 pcm. !default {
    type hw
    card "Haswell-ULT HD Audio Controller"
}

ctl. !default {
    type hw
card "8 Series HD Audio Controller"
}

no result either.

Hi all! Installed "Gnuinos" today - a distribution approved by the Free Software Foundation
And I ran into a problem: I have no sound.
In xfce, amixer-gtk is installed instead of pulseaudio. I tried playing with it in different ways, but nothing changes
I tried entering the following in the terminal to see the list of available devices:

 aplay -l
** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 8: HDMI 2 [HDMI 2]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC3223 Analog [ALC3223 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I am using laptop inspition7537
It has the following audio controllers:
Haswell-ULT HD Audio Controller and 8 Series HD Audio Controller
If I understood correctly, the problem is the lack of some drivers, but I don’t even know where to get them (I couldn’t find anything on the Intel website)

Is that package in the Debian repositories?
I cannot find it.

Devuan is Debian albeit without systemd so if a package is not in the Debian repositories you won't find it in the Devuan repositories.
Now, if it is in the Debian repositories but requires systemd to run, then you won't find it in the Devuan repositories.

As a Devuan user you should know that by now. (!)
That and that installing applications from foreign repositories is really not a good idea.

That said, from the information you have posted it is quite obvious that the package you are attempting to install requires systemd to be present.
Devuan does not and will not ever use systemd.

If you really (really) need to have an appimage launcher, you will need to find a Linux distribution that uses it.
There's no way around that.

Best,

A.

Hello. I downloaded the archive from the Internet, so obviously the program is not in the devuan repositories. To run programs through this program, systemd is NOT required, but as I understand it, its presence is necessary (?), because when you start the terminal, it gives an error that systemd is missing for appimagelauncher.

rolfie wrote:

If I am not mistaken you are on Daedalus, correct?

Then forget the idea to install a complex Ubuntu application on a Devuan system. The required dependencies live in their Ubuntu universum, and most likely they do not fit to Debian/Devuan. And for sure an Ubuntu package will not be considered for fixing it into Devuan.

Yes, that's right, I'm using the daedalus version.
I do not know if these dependencies are suitable or not, but after the sudo apt-get install -f command, the application launches all the programs I need.
I definitely need the application, because I have programs that run only on it.
The only annoying thing is an error that occurs almost almost every time in the terminal, saying that "they say you don't have systemd"

as I understand it, the error occurs due to the lack of dependencies. But if you install these dependencies, for example through

I would like to get your installation recommendations

#7 Desktop and Multimedia » Files disappearing » 2023-09-24 16:58:16

Hi all! The following problem occurred:
I have an external hard drive. There was a folder in this disk, in this folder there were 3 rows with files (8 files for each row). In the third row there were 2 libre-write files. The distance of these files from row 2 was further than that of the other rows. I was confused by this fact and I moved these files to the folder from row 2 and for some reason, surprisingly, I did not find these 2 files in the folder to which I moved them.
There are no files in the recycle bin, the files cannot be found through libre, it says that such files do not exist, although I recently accessed them.
Maybe someone has encountered something similar? It’s just that I’ve been using devuan for several days now, but it continues to amaze me. This is the first time I've seen files disappear like this.

Hi all! I have Devuan Xfce installed. At the top there is such a panel with running applications, elements (wifi, etc.)
I have a problem: my elements are moving. That is: if applications like a browser are not running, then the elements are located right in the middle of the panel; if you launch any application, then the elements are shifted to the right. Previously, the elements (wifi and so on) were purely on the top right and they did not move, but now something has suddenly changed..
how to get everything back?

2. Failed to rename "new folder"
An error occurred while renaming the file /media/charon/seagate backup plus drive/new folder: the directory is not empty

I wanted to delete and rename some folders from my external hard drive and ended up getting these errors. What to do?

#10 Re: Desktop and Multimedia » Browsers won't launch » 2023-09-16 06:12:40

Good afternoon everyone
Let me remind you that the issue on this topic has already been resolved by installing another working environment (Xfce)
This problem was observed not only by the author of the topic.
This problem, as I understand it, does not exist in the old stable version of "Chimaera"
Further testing of the Gnome working environment in the Daedalus version is possible only by other users

Maybe the issue you are having with Firefox is Wayland/rootless start related.
Maybe it's not showing your apps on your default screen.

Are you starting them from a terminal or from Gnome? Starting them from a terminal may show some useful information.

I don’t even know what Wayland/rootless is to be honest) I don’t know what about the others, but I launched it from the firefox icon. Ps: I also tried it from the terminal, but still nothing started

chimaera is an old version of devuan. It is quite stable and can also be used. I'm glad that everything works in this version, but I would recommend that you still switch to the daedalus version It has certain new features that are not present in the Chimaera version:
Based on Debian Bookworm (version 12) with Linux kernel 6.1
Rootless startx uses libseat1
Wayland GUI without elogind

ls -al ~/.icons

I have already written the following commands and removed the necessary icons
Thanks for your help

xanther@devuan:~$ cd ~/.icons

It turns out that the problem was that I wrote the "su" command, huh ..

Hi all! Recently I was interested in the WhiteSur-Light topic from Xfce-Look.org
I downloaded the archive of this theme, went to settings-appearance and added this theme.
Having used this theme, I decided to download another one, but from the official repository, and I managed to do it. But now I don't understand how to delete the WhiteSur theme.
I wrote the command sudo apt remove WhiteSur-light, but it gave me an error, then I decided to look at the correct name of this theme. I wrote the command apt search theme | less but didn’t find this topic there.
This theme is also not in the Usr/share/themes/ location.
Perhaps the theme is in the .themes folder
I checked using the command sudo find / -iname "*WhiteSur-Light*"
gives the location .themes/WhiteSur-Light
I wrote the command sudo rm -rf WhiteSur-light, but still nothing. The theme does not disappear in the settings - appearance

You can see the Devuan specific artwork in our git store:

There are also previews on the forum for the first 5 Devuan releases.

In the settings-appearance I see only one theme and those that I installed. I don’t see any other topics that could be put on..
The link you sent me gives me a 404 error.

Hi all! Finally we managed to resolve the issue with the keyboard. In general, I rummaged around in the settings. I deleted all layouts.
Before that, I had English (US) and Russian (typewritten) layouts
I reinstalled the English one and instead of the Russian typescript I just put in the Russian one.
thanks to everyone who tried to help
