First of all, thank you again for the great help here.
Hama has now responded. Just as you expected, they write that they only support Mac and Windows. They don't offer support for Linux. They refer to Linux forums.
I wasn't aware of the quoting error. I thought I had done it correctly. Where was the mistake?
Of course, I can connect the camera to the PC. But neither it nor the memory card are recognized. If I remember correctly, the camera must be listed in gphoto2. This is the underlying framework for all photo programs like gThumb, etc.
I can understand the explanation about the driver problem. But it's a very annoying story. I belong to the generation that uses everything to its full potential. For us, something like this is doubly bad.
I watched the video. It was very interesting, and I would have given it a try. But a small miracle has happened. After an apt-get update and upgrade, my PC recognizes the Hama card reader again!!! I'm happy.
I've also discovered this page translation feature in FF. It works wonderfully. It makes things much easier for me. I'll be checking in here more often from now on.
Altoid, thanks for your help.
I have written to Hama and will inform you of the result.
My camera has an xD card, and it's hard to find a compatible card reader. Direct access to the camera is therefore not possible.
may now need a different/specific driver module with the newer Linux kernels,
I do not understand that. Can't you reload the old driver module?
Thanks again for your support.
Thank you for the kind explanation. I learned a lot.
To the questions:
Q1: No, I use a PC.
Q2: -
Q3: No, I inserted the reader without a card
Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the reply.

Thank you for your help and greetings from Germany!
I have a USB 2.0 card reader 35 in 1. The device worked for years without any problems. When I upgraded to Debian 8 or 9, it stopped working. I thought the device was defective and bought a new one.
I think the appropriate driver has been removed from the kernel. But how do I find it and what do I do then?
Please bear with me, I haven't been active for a long time. But I'll get back into it. Thanks for the tip.
I have a camera with an XD card.
