Thanks for your help. devadmin's procedure worked. It must have been the netinstall.
My reasoning for 3.0 was to get and older release to verify special software on.

What version of Devuan are you running on what version of Virtualbox.
I did actually what you laid out. No go. The version of Devuan I installed is Devuan beowulf 3.0 323mb.

It is configured in Virtualbox under guest (Devuan 3.0) / shared folders.
As I said this works on other guest systems.

Installed Devuan 3.0 on Virtualbox 6.1.26
Made guest additions
Mouse and Video working well
"shares" not working. Not showing up
They show up on other guests

After installing Devuan as a guest on virtualbox I can not get "share" to work.

I have installed Devuan 3.0 on Virtualbox 6.1.26
I am having two problems
1) xrandr does not stick. Keeps getting reset on reboot.
2) shares are not accessible. How to enable/start?
Mouse copy/paste are OK.
