There's no security repo for the Testing branch. As long as Chimaera is in testing, any security updates will filter down from Ceres, our unstable branch. Unstable means the versions can change quickly.
It takes a week for a version to move from Unstable to Testing. If you want to selectively get updates sooner than that, you can add a line for ceres to your sources.list and pin ceres to a lower priority, so that you can pick and choose what to take.
Yes, i know how packages migrates from unstable to testing, one week is a reasonable time for updates, i don't think that for the use i make of this machine it is necessary to do the pinning from Ceres. I asked only to understand how the things work in Devuan.
I'm not sure what will happen when Debian Bullseye goes stable. We might start tracking the security updates at that time.
I don't know exactly what you mean whit "will happen" but the things honestly intrigues me but i'm totally sure you have very very good reasons for doing it this way.
Thanks so much for the help and for the remarkable and crucial work you are doing for the community carrying out Devuan so well,
have a good day!
Hello everybody, i'm new to this forum but not to the GNU/Linux world, i first installed Slackware back in 1994 than i switched to Debian for long happy years and then to Devuan for the reasons you can easily imagine, trying in the meantime almost all the major distributions, for fun and "study".
I'm quite a shy person so that i don't write often on the forums but i ran into a problem with Devuan that i really don't know how to solve....and it's pretty a shame as Devuan is the distro i really prefer to use!
Well, i recently been tracking the testing branch, so, of course, i activated also the "devuan-security" repository, but i received in return the following error:
echo "Ignorato:3 http://deb.devuan.org/merged chimaera-security InRelease
Errore:4 http://deb.devuan.org/merged chimaera-security Release
404 Not Found [IP: 54.36.142.183 80]
Lettura elenco dei pacchetti... Fatto
E: Il repository "http://deb.devuan.org/merged chimaera-security Release" non ha un file Release.
N: L'aggiornamento da tale repository non può essere eseguito in modo sicuro ed è quindi disabilitato come impostazione predefinita.
N: Consultare la pagina man apt-secure(8) per la creazione di un repository e la configurazione utente.";
(i have italian locals installed, sorry...)
I checked here https://www.devuan.org/os/packages but it seems my sources.list entries are correct, as in the following text from the url i reported:
Devuan Chimaera (testing)
echo "deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged chimaera main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged chimaera-updates main
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged chimaera-security main";
So, for now i'm still tracking testing without specifying a security repository, perhaps this is not a good idea?
Or are security updates now released differently?
Is someone here able to clarify my ideas about that issue? I thank you in advance!
