#626 Re: News & Announcements » The dev1galaxy.org (almost) No Code of Conduct » 2024-01-09 16:10:00

@alexkemp . . . Good point! I'll leave the discussion open a while longer before making the change. Thanks for the feedback!

#627 Re: News & Announcements » The dev1galaxy.org (almost) No Code of Conduct » 2024-01-09 01:16:04

OK folks . . . will this wording change work for you??

Adult behavior based on a foundation of mutual respect is expected from visitors to this forum regardless of age.

#628 Re: News & Announcements » The dev1galaxy.org (almost) No Code of Conduct » 2024-01-08 23:24:11

@zapper . . . Love your new signature! Will consider the clarification suggested . . .

#629 Re: News & Announcements » The dev1galaxy.org (almost) No Code of Conduct » 2024-01-08 21:57:08

Good grief . . . Please read this post for clarification of "adult" in the context of this forum.

That was roughly 30' ago and it has not yet appeared on the list of 'newest messages'.

It landed in moderation and I deleted it as you instructed to ignore it. At least it did arrive so something else is broken @hendrik's setup . . .

#631 Re: Other Issues » I can read but not send to the DNG mailing list » 2024-01-08 02:00:22

I monitor that list and your emails are not being held in moderation. You used to be able to post and absolutely nothing has been changed on dyne's end. Seems I remember you recently had a failure of some sort in your networking set up. My guess is that the problem is there . . .

#632 Re: Devuan » Broken compatibility with recent upgrade » 2024-01-08 00:20:31

It is almost certain that it cannot be avoided. Extensive discussion on the dng mail list.

#633 Re: Devuan » Broken compatibility with recent upgrade » 2024-01-07 21:32:21

@phaoost . . . If you want to run  ceres aka sid . . . you get to keep all the pieces. smile

Well said zapper! This document has been around for a very long time. I self-hosted this forum for about 2 years before it replaced the original Discourse which was not really suited for Devuan users. According to the above posts, 2016-12-03 17:43:38 was the last time it was edited but then I can't remember if I made any minor 'silent' edits.

#636 Re: Off-topic » USA Foods » 2024-01-05 21:20:12

@quickfur . . . Did you read my posts at the beginning of this thread? I've been following and engaging in food quality issues since the 70s . . . long before there were any organic standards. If you want the whole story, try email . . .

#637 Re: Off-topic » USA Foods » 2024-01-05 18:25:03

WOW! Even I am not that cynical because I have know too many folks trying to do the right thing the right way . . .

All I know is that whatever I'm eating/doing keeps my system happy . . .

Maybe Devuan should take up the mantle and publish more info on these things online.

Or maybe that is something that quickfur might want to explore and curate?

#639 Re: Installation » Howto install dual-boot Windows Linux best method » 2024-01-04 18:44:45

@andyp67 . . . you are ballooning the forum logs with personal ramblings that have no place in a technical forum.  Please find a more appropriate venue to do that . . .

#640 Re: Installation » [SOLVED] Fresh Installation of Devuan Wifi Not Working & Grub Issue » 2024-01-04 18:39:54

Good grief! A full quote post in response to clear instructions NOT TO FULL QUOTE POST. What am I missing here?

#641 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » merged /usr » 2024-01-02 19:33:26

@steve_v . . . Thank you for trying to bring order and focus to the chaos . . .

#642 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] How to fix unicode text, it's showing as a box » 2024-01-01 18:25:35

You can install LibreOffice Writer without installing all of LibreOffice. Cuts down on the bloat . . .

#643 Re: Devuan » Debian Farm? » 2023-12-30 21:05:43

/me notes how annoying it is to have to keep blocking gifs

Same as the installer isos sysvinit.

No. But you can download and add KDE after installation.

I do not think libsystemd0 is harmful

Yes, it is just an annoyance but removing it would be wasted effort for no benefit. That's why it may still present in Devuan.

paculino wrote:

but I seem to be unable to have it, as holding it when installed would not allow installing these packages (well, dummy-elogind allowed some of them, but not all).

Unless something has changed, there is no need to have libsystemd0 present in Devuan.

#648 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » merged /usr » 2023-12-28 03:09:10

There are extensive discussions on the DNG mail list. The takeaway (if I understand it correctly) is that unless we have a huge influx of devs to fork the necessary packages, usrmerge will be unavoidable. Read and draw your own conclusions.

#649 Re: Devuan » Wifi setup in devuan » 2023-12-28 03:01:04

@quickfur . . . Did you follow either of the migration instructions posted here? Apologies if you mentioned that you did previously . . .

Also the wireless prefixes are the old ones not the ones in Debian. Don't ask me what they are. I don't have wireless enabled.

#650 Re: Installation » Bookworm -> Daedalus migration nscd network-manager failed » 2023-12-28 02:56:34

This this forum post titled Why are systemd files present in Devuan? will help you understand that those files that are bothering you are harmless and necessary. Note that I posted that statement but did not write it. Take care . . .
