Huh? I have been using Devuan with xfce since 2015 and NEVER had to use pulse audio. apulse has always been there so alsa worked ootb.

Excalibur is unlikely to be "settled" until Debian Trixie goes stable . . . if even then. Proceed with caution as there will likely be more bumps in the road..
