Actually, I think I found out why I kept failing... I forgot to make an unused partition with 30MB
Btw, if you do have arm64 images for installing on a rockpro64, can you tell me what you recommend for installing it correctly?
Instructions another words. I read their website, but wasn't all too clear. Although, its possible I missed the 30MB unused partition part and thats why it failed lol.
Tried with devuan tho.
Lots of groaners, but whenever I want one, I will come here for them.
@quickfur I was going to come down on you like a ton of bricks, but I saw your second post after mine and I realize you aren't doing what this one annoying pest did on my mastodon feed and saying this bunch of propaganda like he did.
What he is said is that old tired lying slogan of:
"sugar is sugar your body can't tell the difference"
This person also said that, I was being given propaganda from health food stores or w/e.
Ironically, he was the one giving propaganda...
Irony sometimes seems to have no bounds. Liars exist everywhere... some realize they are lying, some don't and some don't care or a mixture.
Anywho, yeah, there might be bad actors in the organic market. those naked drinks, I recall hearing they had their organic status revoked at one point for doing stuff like that...
Naked drinks as in, these are smoothies that were sold. Just a brand really.
Yeah, discourse is a pile of horse crap. Although, javascript never was a good idea to use for the web anyhow.
The creators of discourse and webcomponents, are trying to solve a problem they created. No one should program anything like the web with any programming languages that are bloated or screwed up. Actually, EDIT: not merely screwed up, SCREWED UP on MULTIPLE levels!
lol.
Having alnost a third of the public be uneducated and being able to vote and believing whatever trash people pull our of their ass, will keep this stuff going for many years to come if history is any guide.
More on topic though, I avoid the really processed crap as much as possible. Hell, I try to go all organic.
Seems I missed some fun threads with a bunch of nonsense...
Damn, lol.
Btw, I don't see a reason to completely ban him, he was probably just way too high on coke when he was posting lately.
Then again, I will also say it is not my choice. Just my two cents.
@zapper
Out of curiosity, I installed Chromium, opened these sites in it and FF.
Honestly, I don't see the difference.
What should you pay attention to?Regards.
I was speaking of for palemoon, basilisk-browser, iceweasel-uxp and similar.
Basically, XUL web browsers these fixes help with.
If you not having problems, with discourse, then no need to worry.
zapper wrote:Tell me if you support ARM64 in the future. I would love to use this on my pocket mnt reform. it will be a while till other options, HyperbolaBSD for example... show up.
Yes, zapper, gnuinos will support arm sooner rather than later.
If you do support arm sooner than later and it works well enough, I could potentially install on my rockpro64!
Yes the issue with the time templates was a silly mistake. It shows the difference a single character can make when coding. in this case it was matter of lowercase vs uppercase.
For those who don't know what we are talking about. The suggested templates for the tray clock used months instead of minutes. This meant the minutes were only correct once per hour as they only change once a day. An embarrassing mistake, but one that was easy to make.
I have made embarrassing mistakes too,
something as simple as leaving apostrophes, like this:
MODULES="i915"
https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id … el_modules
Was enough to make my system unbootable.
That frustrated me one hundred + times almost before I sought help to learn that was the problem.
Something so small can cause huge headaches eh?
Not sure what you mean by discourse websites; the sites that don't work for me are sites that use things like Chrome-specific ways of doing video/audio via complex JS code. I've no idea how one might work around this dependency.
Also, what I don't expect in my lifetime is the ability to browse online, without any handicap or loss of functionality, with keyboard only, zero mouse use. I don't believe there's a big audience for this even among those who prefer no corporation driven designs.
The discourse websites, such as nitrokey's forum or, mnt research forum, the creators of the mnt reform design anotherwords.
You may notice the your web browser isn't up to date nonsense and how you need to upgrade to browse happy bs.
There are fixes for some of those websites. It requires modify http response and specific filters such as this:
[["/^/",["/browser-detect-/",["/.*/g",""]],["/^\\/assets\\/discourse-[0-9a-f]{4}/",["(.d-modal-legacy\"","(.d-modal-legacy)\"","document.execCommand(\"insertText\",!1,","this._textarea.setRangeText("]]]]
Palemoon forums users have figured this out, which is awesome.
I second that, on both accounts! May Gnuinos please offer an ARM64 iso! ...and HyperbolaBSD is a useful alternative forward although unfortunately it is not Debian-based, but they recognise the drawbacks of Rust in the kernel and other issues - see their 'Philosophy' listing in the left margin!
Genode with its Sculpt OS is another alternative to the loss of privacy, security and licensing use freedom, and RISC-V is an up-and-coming architecture, already supported by Debian.
Rust is also mega bloated so... I don't think their memory safe security claims are worth trusting. Not to mention their tight grip on the standard will make it impossible for anyone to fix these idiotic bloat problems.
HyperbolaBSD has the potential to be many miles better because it will be based on OpenBSD as a hard fork design.
That's not to say devuan can't make their own.
The more money that flows Hyperbola's way, the more they can accomplish stuff like supporting ARM64 long term. As long as they can get the hardware also ofc.
zapper wrote:...my pocket mnt reform. it will be a while till other options... show up.
Why did you buy it then?
You can send it to me if you have no use for it. I would be interested in installing Trisquel on it, but my strict moral consciousness forbids me from sending such an amount of money for a blobbed device. Next time, just send the $1000 to me, I could have much better use for it. I would probably send it to aitor to support Gnuinos, at least that would be useful and deserved.
Blobbed device? Perhaps, but I got it because its 7 inch ARM64 modular device.
Its no more blobbed in my opinion then anything else on the market, much less actually.
I don't agree with FSF's standards on what constitutes RYF.
And actually, more specifically, it should be RYP
Respects Your Privacy
Another words, there is no device that respects freedom 100% out there, probably never will be. 95%? Maybe... but microcode always exists in a system to some extent.
It just ain't feasible and people should accept it. RYP however would work.
Disabling the network stack of backdoors? Possible, example intel me from gen 3-12. Not sure about gen 13+
Disabling all non-free aspects replacing with new code? That isn't possible... without breaking the law.
I am not assuming he will support ARM64. It was a request. If it doesn't happen, meh w/e.
I just asked in case he would be open to it.
Although, its possible Risc-V, Openpower Microwatt and Openpower Libre-Soc will be easier to support in the ultra long term.
No idea tho.
But yeah, basically privacy can be achievable if coreboot like bios and network stack backdoor issues can be disabled. Otherwise, no.
Glad to see that the time issue won't reoccur anymore. I am still surprised it snuck through.
I honestly wonder if the corporatization of software on linux, isn't the reason why xorg and other older standards are not secure today.
It isn't exactly the corporate motto to have no bloat in operating systems. They go the other direction, microsoft is a perfect example of this.
dbus, systemd, similar nonsensical crap like that, probably has only hurt security for linux.
I sometimes wonder another words, if they are fixing a problem they created themselves.
Hmm...
A good rule of thumb, I have noted for hardware in general, if it doesn't have coreboot on it, older hardware usually is easier to deal with in an open source way.
Although, older hardware is more likely to be corebootable... so there's that.
I did however hear once nvidia is being more reasonable with newer hardware now. I don't know how long that lasted or if that was just pure PR, but I do remember hearing about it.
I still avoid using nvidia due to the bloated electrical usage, but better to use libre than non whenever possible.
Tell me if you support ARM64 in the future. I would love to use this on my pocket mnt reform. it will be a while till other options, HyperbolaBSD for example... show up.
I keep Chromium around for those few sites that refuse to work without it, which in my case fortunately is only a small handful. (I can live without the rest.) I used to be a big Opera fan until they sold out and switched to a Chrome engine. .
There are ways to use discourse websites even with using palemoon or other uxp web browsers.
I don't think it won't happen in your life time, unless you are 60+ already.
Might take a few decades but I don't think its impossible. Although, a rising up against corporations is needed first. Its slowly happening due to corporations and their abusing smart device bs. Tethering stuff that doesn't need to be tethered, etc...
Micronaut wrote:* If this does not occur, it may be 'fork time' again. Someone ought to copy the Firefox code base and start a new project to have a browser genuinely free of corporate control.
Is that not what Palemoon has already done? Installed the latest version last night, working better than current Firefox does on my machine.
Agree with the above.
What is probably needed, is more people should contribute to palemoon. Best of all, since the drama dev is gone, palemoon is led by Moonchild only. And he is perfectly sane. Can't say the same for the dev who used to lead with him.
My only qualm and it is a very tiny one, is that dbus is still required to run the web browser as is unless you compile yourself, etc...
Beyond that? Nothing at all.
BTW MASSIVE THING TO MENTION:
https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30655
Apparently, he might be having funding issues at the moment. Just a heads up!
If you have the disk image you can mount that on som other system and run that update command there. Or even patch the initrd directly (unpack, patch, pack).
Oh, well I don't know how to do this currently... patching initrd directly, etc on another system.
Although, I won't have access till friday or later.
I have not tried any other distro yet though.
I guess then, do I really need that serial console to get video output? And what do I need to make it function properly period.
Thoughts?
I don't have a usb serial console currently as a heads up.
I followed the wiki on rockpro64:
https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/ROCKPro64_ … ses#Debian
However this error happens:
https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/ROCKPro64# … _on_Debian
How do I fix this?
I see the guide, but if I can't get a video display, how the frick do I fix this issue by doing this:
echo governor_simpleondemand >> /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
update-initramfs -u -k $(uname -r)
I mean if I can't even see the display, then how can I even do that.
Answers anyone? Could use them.
Lumina Desktop + Acer Aspire with 1GB of ram. 1.66ghz processor.
I haven't done this persay, but I have run mate, lxde and xfce4, so I bet it would work with Lumina too.
It also requires the least bloat to use of the four...
I have run the other three desktop environments on that computer before just to clarify.
Although, this was around the days of debian 7... but I was using a linux distro with upstart and other ubuntu garbage, so... yeah.
Uncle aluma,
I wish you hadn't mentioned the name of the ad-blocker. I use it too.
However, I fear the YouTube Police will find out about it, and send the YouTube Swat Team in to annihilate "said name of ad-blocker".
Shhhhhhh...
Security by obscurity doesn't mean diddily. They will try to annihilate all ad blockers not just that one!
Smh...
