Thanks, Oldmoss . . . Unfortunately, picking off spam once it's on the board isn't the solution. We need a spam prevention mod installed to deter spammers at registration. That requires sys admin skills which I am lacking and I've been Linuxing for over 10 years! Appreciate the offer though . . .
Hmmm . . . looks like someone on the team cleared out some of the cruft. Guess I'll go in and take care of the rest of it.
In less than 12 hours nearly 400 spammers have either newly registered or are waiting to be verified. Hunker down folks. It's a comin' . . .
I have been manually deleting spam and spam registrations since this board went live . . . hundreds every day. I've reached my limit. If the backend can't get it together to deal with it at the source, let the tsunami come! If anyone wants to help with stemming the tide at the source (not just spam hunting), shoot me an email. I probably won't be here much because it would be too distressing to see where this is headed. No need to report spam because no one will be here to do anything about it. It seemed like a good idea at the time . . .
golinux
Malinas . . . we're working on that. We've only had about half a dozen spam posts since we went online because we're nuking spam registrations with a fury! The registration process will be upgraded hopefully soon.
Nice to see you here Pick2 and thanks for the offer. To date there hasn't been much spam on the board itself. Just registrations that are known spammers and those with spam in their signatures. You will be enlisted when needed!!
Hello Users!
The Dev1Galaxy Admin collective salutes you!
Last night we culled hundreds of bot/spam registrations from the DB. In the coming days we plan on introducing some light, albeit effective, anti-spam measures - mainly the introduction of a registration question - which shouldn't affect anyone currently registered and shouldn't be too annoying for those who have yet to register. This new registration procedure will be combined with periodic purges of our database to keep the board in good order.
One or two of you might find your account missing. If you find your account was accidentally deleted during this purge, or any in the future, please contact sapein@darknedgy.net as soon as possible after deletion. You must include the following:
- The Username of the Account.
- The date you noticed it was deleted on.
- The registration date.
- The email you registered with.
- The password of the deleted account.
Some of the details will be used to verify the account that belonged to you, and some of it will be used to regenerate the account. Please note that it is best to contact us within a day or so after it is deleted to allow us to identify the account in our backups so we can restore it more easily and quickly.
For those who accidentally lost their account . . . we hope everyone understands and apologize for the inconvience.
Signed,
The Dev1Galaxy Admin collective
I just got bit by this. Yes, there should be a grace period during which users can correct typos etc. Will see if there is an option to allow for that.
@xunilog . . . As per your request please see: https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=135#p135 New theme is Purpylite. I hope it suits your needs.
As per @xunilog's request, I have added a Purpylite skin to the available themes. The code boxes in that theme are now dark font on light gray. Feedback welcome!
