What's an S.O.? Dyslexic typo?
Those are the elephants in the room, aren't they . . .
Unfortunately, no crystal ball here.
When I access "users and groups", Devuan is also not listed. I check Debian and it works just fine.
When you say experimental, do you mean experimental in ASCII or experimental in Jessie?
The experimental repo is not tied to a release afaik.
@JoshuaFlynn . . .
Working backwards . . .
You can share artwork on the Friends of Devuan wiki.
Packagers who can help to clean out systemd dependencies are always welcome. Have you seen the Devuan packaging helper? Check with parazyd about which packages are a priority.
Once you have your distro together, please post to the derivatives forum.

You might be interested in comparing your lists with these three. I assume parazyd obtained them from apt searches on the output of amprolla3 (which should be operational soon). They were included in his recent ASCII release proposal:
outdated packages in Ascii: http://sprunge.us/AIeF
These packages might and might not need updates, but we should figure out if there is some necessary releases to be done regarding security.libsystemd packages in Ascii: http://sprunge.us/cfAW
These packages shouldn't have to be forked at this point, since the library doesn't do anything if systemd is not there.banned packages in Ascii: http://sprunge.us/ALPE
I hope you understand that this thread is tongue-in-cheek humor.
I would like to see the Devuan developers offer even experimental access to alternatives to udev (such as eudev, vdev, etc) even if not necessarily working out of the box or particularly integrated.
Both eudev and vdev are available for testing in ascii but I'm not quite sure where they are maybe in experimental.
Now that's funny!
That was pretty much the setup I had on my last laptop (lubuntu), except Audacious. I have now the same on the X1. Pulseaudio gone, ALSA in. As you said, it did not help with the buttons though. I:ll dig into this at a later time. The way it is now is good enough.
Sometimes it takes a while to sort things with Linux. BTW, audacity and audacious are two different things. ![]()
I will look at these later, thank you.
Pulse Audio is what came with Devuan Jessie Netinstall. I you have never used it, what do you use? (assuming you listen to "stuff")
Mostly I 'listen to stuff' when I'm working on it with audacity. The inclusion of pulseaudio displeases many of us as it is more Potterware and has a history of being unreliable. One of the first things we do is to rip it out. pulseaudio is a front end to manage alsa. Most of us revert back to alsa without the 'helper'. And even though the newest versions of Firefox have a dependency on pulseaudio, we are finding a way to get around that with apulse.
Several folks have had difficulty getting sound working. pulseaudio might be part of the problem. Then make sure that nothing in alsamixer is muted for starts. Here are some references. Not exactly your problem but might offer some insight. There are probably more scattered here and there:

Disclaimer: I have never used pulseaudio.
Don't work how exactly?

Welcome to the forum. You definitely don't want to mix in Debian repos. Try the 4.9 kernel from backports:
deb http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged jessie-backports main
deb-src http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged jessie-backports mainKeep in mind that devuan does not yet have beowulf repos set up. Hopefully coming soon.
I don't know if it's related, but thunar has a similar bug. Sometimes it locks up when it's in detailed list view. If I catch it soon enough, I can press ctrl-1 or ctrl-3 to change to icon or simple list view or else close the window by clicking on the x in the corner. If I wait, it totally locks up and has to be killed from command line. It's a known bug in thunar that's been around for years.
Hmmmm . . . I ALWAYS use detailed list view in thunar and have NEVER had it lock up. Go figure . . .
The delay in GNUinos made me opt for Hyperbola GNU / Linux-Libre
@pekman . . .Was wondering why you haven't been around lately. I went to your forum, saw the change but didn't quite grok what was happening til now.
BTW, tried clicking the above link and got this:
Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to www.hyperbola.info. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

I thought it was a firejail thing but got something similar on chromium w/o firejail.

Please consider setting up a https://www.patreon.com account so we can support Devuan on a monthly basis. Ubuntu Mate has this and seem to do rather well with it. I support a content producer via Patreon and have found it a great way to support those I appreciate.
Thank you.
Why should we use a third-party service that takes a cut of the donations? The systems we have in place should allow for recurring support.
Thanks for the reply. How do I do that?
Lower RH corner of the read screen has these options. As a user you might not have a delete option:

Go to the first post in this thread and click on edit. You'll have to be logged in, of course.
I'll take care of it this time.
Just edit the title of the first post.
@fsmithred . . . FYI from https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?pid=5061#p5061
et, zut, je me suis rendu compte qu'il aurait fallu passer par l'installeur de Debian. alors, c'est fini, car je n'utilise ni CD ni clef USB sur mon système

and, damn, I realized that it would have been necessary to go through the installer of Debian. then, it is finished, because I do not use CD or USB key on my system
@gdager.. subscribe to git.devuan.org and use the git.devuan.org oauth integration... gitlab has a session expiry of days iirc...
This on irc before I woke up with some spelling, mathematical corrections and annotation:
<rrq> [05:54:24] by a brief scan of the source: there are 3 expiration times in play:
<rrq> [05:55:43] 1) after registration and profile update, there's only a short expiration time (3 minutes)
<rrq> [05:55:59] 2) after password login, the expiration time is 14 days
<rrq> [05:56:18] 3) with gdo login, the expiration time is a year.
<rrq> [05:56:27] all that is for the session cookie validity
<rrq> [05:56:59] (actually, 1 is 1800 seconds = 30 minutes)
<rrq> [05:57:36] then there's the inactivity timeout of 300 seconds. And I think that's what they grumble about.
<rrq> [06:00:26] (actually 2 is only if you tick the "keep me logged in" option; otherwise it's 1800 seconds)
<rrq> [06:02:41] with some modern browsers, one can convince it to juggle the required password on demand, seamlessly, under the hood, and seemingly stay logged in indefinitely. [This is my experience but I am here a lot - golinux]
<rrq> [06:03:50] anyhow, it's the inactivity timeout that makes it a problem to procrastinate while authoring.
<rrq> [06:08:36] "The average person types between 38 and 40 words per minute.." (google tells me)
<fsmithred> [06:12:51] typing is not activity?
<rrq> [06:13:42] if you type really hard, it might bounce through the server
<fsmithred> [06:14:24] lol
<rrq> [06:14:36] no; "inactivity time" is the time difference between two server interactions.
<fsmithred> [06:14:48] yahoo chat used to tell you when the person you were talking to was typing
<fsmithred> [06:15:29] why would the dude's preview button be missing?
<rrq> [06:16:20] it probably just was below the window edge.
<rrq> [06:20:08] But it's terribly easy to change the inactivity timeout from 300 to any other number of seconds.
<fsmithred> [06:20:34] five minutes is too short
<rrq> [06:21:16] an hour?
<fsmithred> [06:21:51] I was thinking 15 minutes, but that might be too short, too.
<fsmithred> [06:22:08] takes me longer than that sometimes
<fsmithred> [06:22:53] but I learned long ago not to expect to stay logged in when I'm replying. Been bitten by that at lots of forums.
<rrq> [06:23:28] now I realised 1800 is half an hour... I'll make it 1800 ...
<fsmithred> [06:23:44] that's good
