Chromium... sigh people use that... its not exactly good regarding leaks. Firefox at its best leaks less.

#252 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » Mouse no longer works after update » 2024-07-01 05:49:18

UPDATE:

I tried removing:

Also upgraded the below:

firefox-esr
Iall qemu stuff and linux-libre-lts and winehq-staging stuff.

I rebooted and things were fine and then I removed libreoffice and upgraded openrc and bingo:

I got the same problem again.

Btw, I have a snapshot qcow2 image of the last time it worked.

I now think openrc has been screwed up somehow...

Sigh... very annoying.

#253 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] Huge upgrade this morning ... » 2024-07-01 05:18:04

@Altoid yeah... I wonder which of those packages it is. Very strange...

I updated more of them and I see that they still work,  but I will have to give you more details probably.

EDIT:

Refer to this link:

Same topic I am mentioning, but yeah.

Weird stuff.

#254 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] Huge upgrade this morning ... » 2024-07-01 01:29:36

@GlennW mine is a usb dongle though. I have a Logitech M510 and also one other one as well, both don't work after I do the latest updates.

Its kind of annoying, because I don't know how to downgrade the packages needed to fix my problem.

I uploaded a picture of  the packages that I was about to update, because this happened one other time.

Anyone know which of these packages I need to downgrade?

I cannot seem to get my wireless mice working after I upgrade from here.

My mouse is a logitech M510. its a usb dongle wireless mouse. It doesn't use bluetooth.

#256 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » [SOLVED] Huge upgrade this morning ... » 2024-06-30 23:08:33

Speaking of huge upgrade, I can't seem to get my mouse working with the most recent upgrades... again.

https://upload.disroot.org/r/54sJQDA0#J … IkqA1GsIs=

This is the packages I updated.  Once I do this, I poweroff computer and reboot and wireless mouse no longer works.

@aluma My understanding is that pride is an unhealthy confidence  very often in one's self or someone one praises. Possibly in a thing as well.

Thou Shalt not steal however feels more like a warning against greed.

Just my two cents on that.

Pretty sure you shall have no other Gods before me is  a warning against pride.

But either way, when you think only whar you think matters the most or is important despite other prods, hints or evidence, that is foolish.

I have done that many times in the past.

Do not repeat if possible.  Always fight that kind of thinking. That's how humans escape the worst of it.

Otherwise, you become a megalomaniac at best, at worst who knows.

Btw, wasn't intending to take this into a religious discussion.

@golinux +100 especially to the arrogant part.

Why else do people hoard insane amounts of wealth endlessly even when they are already billionaires or more?

They clearly have all the power they could already need at that point.

Yes, its that pride syndrome.

Arrogance is always what happens when confidence is unbalanced in one way or another.

I sadly have learned this in my own life after a few decades or more.

Btw, I won't deny I don't have problems with pride myself. I have had many in my life.

Took me a few decades to learn that lol.

How sad is that?

If my confidence is in an unhealthy place I will make many more mistakes than if I kept that part of me in check. Although I still would* make plenty even then.

typo again! annoying lol

A bunch of edits because forgot to say a few things.

@nahkhiirmees did you do an advanced install or a regular one?

I never do advanced installs and I never have your problem. Although, its possible I am missing something.

#262 Re: Off-topic » The Joke Thread » 2024-06-29 07:12:14

@quickfur The blacksmith joke was brilliant... you probably have others I missed, but you make so many, I have to wonder where you get them all from.

Either you have a natural talent, or you look them up online and put them on here or a mixture.

I tend to think not the 2nd option. Either the first option or both makes sense to me.

#263 Re: Off-topic » AI Safety » 2024-06-29 07:09:02

@golinux Personally think its pride, greed and laziness.  It takes pride to think that you can do anything without consequences that are a problem. It takes greed as you say due to they thin it will make them rich and laziness, because they think they won't need to do nearly as much work once they have gotten it far enough.

Yes they put out work initially, but its so they can be majorly lazy in the future.

Harm comes one way or another.

#264 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-06-29 07:04:25

@JWM-Kit assuming you can trick FB into believing your using something else.

I am not entirely certain if that's possible. I am more than 75% sure FB is playing a game though by claiming firefox won't work.

UEFI is a glorified backdoor as it is now.

EFI might have been too, but UEFI is way more vulnerable.

Sad to say, but corporations be dumbasses.

@soren dark ambient is my thing. DOOM DOOM2 are good examples of this.

These songs creep me out but I still  enjoy them a lot. Btw, this first track makes me think of "You don't know where you will be attacked from, be on guard on all sides"

This one makes me think of "this is only the beginning"

This one I literally thought subconsciously, when I heard this, "I CANT GET OUT!"

My three favourite doom tracks!

#267 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-06-24 21:46:01

@aluma and I doubt its because firefox is not capable of running it.

Its probably just FB refusing to let it.

#268 Re: Off-topic » deb.sury.org now requires systemd » 2024-06-24 21:44:46

I never really use php or apache, but then again, I don't use server like applications... so yeah.

I can't say if anything better exists or not. Or even similar or alternative.

All I can say is, yes... debian is muking with things sounds about right.  All mainstream distros do this tho...

Except maybe Void.

#270 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-06-05 04:34:26

@golinux well yes, you can be tracked wherever you go online. This is correct. The only place this can be false on is what files exist on your computer.  That's not the level of privacy I find ideal... its mediocre to be honest.

The only place going online doesn't reveal, is your files on your computer.

That's privacy hanging by a thread.

#271 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-06-03 17:25:58

@steve_v I was actually talking about more than just ads in that context. Backdoors for example as well.

Privacy isn't dead but close to it even with every safeguard you put in place possible.

Only libre software
non backdoored hardware computer + router
ath9k wifi card in both.

My goal is more to protest than to get fully privacy. That would be impossible.

I do however think if malicious entities can get into your files on your computer due to a backdoor, etc...

At that point, your privacy is utterly dead.

That is my definition of privacy being dead.

IF they can view all your files on your computer then yes its dead.

#272 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-05-31 02:21:03

@quickfur Even with an openwrt based router?

I have one of those, hence my question.

It also uses ath9k wifi card.

I tend to doubt it is already zero.

Aka, there is some privacy left, if you use linux, coreboot, intel me is diabled type situation with ath9k and your OS has no backdoors.

If that's the case you aren't being spied on by default till you go online and if you have openwrt ath9k router,, another layer.

That's my understanding. However if you go on a non-libre website, then yes, your privacy is trashed on that website even with ublock origin and other precautions in web browser

Point being, you have to jump through so many hoops to have basic protections against privacy invasion.

But then at least you aren't being watched on the OS level with all your files revealed to the web.

Though that's still far from perfect.

This being said, better to starve the data collection beasts of what they want as much as possible.

Its best to protest evil deeds like data collection by starving them as much as you can handle

@quickfur you can still block ads. that is a form of privacy.

When you can no longer do that, things get real bad!

#275 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-05-24 05:03:17

@aluma I hope this is sarcasm because Google doesn't care one iota about anything except money.

Their desire is to shred privacy to death. What's left of it anyhow

I assume this is sarcasm though in which case well done.

Just covering my bases though. wink
