@quickfur The blacksmith joke was brilliant... you probably have others I missed, but you make so many, I have to wonder where you get them all from.

Either you have a natural talent, or you look them up online and put them on here or a mixture.

tongue

I tend to think not the 2nd option. Either the first option or both makes sense to me.

@golinux Personally think its pride, greed and laziness.  It takes pride to think that you can do anything without consequences that are a problem. It takes greed as you say due to they thin it will make them rich and laziness, because they think they won't need to do nearly as much work once they have gotten it far enough.

Yes they put out work initially, but its so they can be majorly lazy in the future.

Harm comes one way or another.

@JWM-Kit assuming you can trick FB into believing your using something else.

I am not entirely certain if that's possible. I am more than 75% sure FB is playing a game though by claiming firefox won't work.

UEFI is a glorified backdoor as it is now.

EFI might have been too, but UEFI is way more vulnerable.

Sad to say, but corporations be dumbasses.

@soren dark ambient is my thing. DOOM DOOM2 are good examples of this.

These songs creep me out but I still  enjoy them a lot. Btw, this first track makes me think of "You don't know where you will be attacked from, be on guard on all sides"

This one makes me think of "this is only the beginning"

This one I literally thought subconsciously, when I heard this, "I CANT GET OUT!"

My three favourite doom tracks!

@aluma and I doubt its because firefox is not capable of running it.

Its probably just FB refusing to let it.

#257 Re: Off-topic » deb.sury.org now requires systemd » 2024-06-24 21:44:46

I never really use php or apache, but then again, I don't use server like applications... so yeah.

I can't say if anything better exists or not. Or even similar or alternative.

All I can say is, yes... debian is muking with things sounds about right.  All mainstream distros do this tho...

Except maybe Void.

#259 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-06-05 04:34:26

@golinux well yes, you can be tracked wherever you go online. This is correct. The only place this can be false on is what files exist on your computer.  That's not the level of privacy I find ideal... its mediocre to be honest.

The only place going online doesn't reveal, is your files on your computer.

That's privacy hanging by a thread.

#260 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-06-03 17:25:58

@steve_v I was actually talking about more than just ads in that context. Backdoors for example as well.

Privacy isn't dead but close to it even with every safeguard you put in place possible.

Only libre software
non backdoored hardware computer + router
ath9k wifi card in both.

My goal is more to protest than to get fully privacy. That would be impossible.

I do however think if malicious entities can get into your files on your computer due to a backdoor, etc...

At that point, your privacy is utterly dead.

That is my definition of privacy being dead.

IF they can view all your files on your computer then yes its dead.

#261 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-05-31 02:21:03

@quickfur Even with an openwrt based router?

I have one of those, hence my question.

It also uses ath9k wifi card.

I tend to doubt it is already zero.

Aka, there is some privacy left, if you use linux, coreboot, intel me is diabled type situation with ath9k and your OS has no backdoors.

If that's the case you aren't being spied on by default till you go online and if you have openwrt ath9k router,, another layer.

That's my understanding. However if you go on a non-libre website, then yes, your privacy is trashed on that website even with ublock origin and other precautions in web browser

Point being, you have to jump through so many hoops to have basic protections against privacy invasion.

But then at least you aren't being watched on the OS level with all your files revealed to the web.

Though that's still far from perfect.

This being said, better to starve the data collection beasts of what they want as much as possible.

Its best to protest evil deeds like data collection by starving them as much as you can handle

@quickfur you can still block ads. that is a form of privacy.

When you can no longer do that, things get real bad!

#264 Re: Off-topic » Firefox is becoming too chrome like. » 2024-05-24 05:03:17

@aluma I hope this is sarcasm because Google doesn't care one iota about anything except money.

Their desire is to shred privacy to death. What's left of it anyhow

I assume this is sarcasm though in which case well done.

Just covering my bases though. wink

#265 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Devuan est à la traîne (google: Devuan is lagging behind) ! » 2024-05-24 05:00:45

@brocashelm that is not doing FOSS a favor in anyway shape or form to be:

A: elitst (which is why I detest the archlinux community for their abuse just asking a question in their irc channel and because it wasnt their distro getting heckled and scoffed at)

B: the demon that is windows needs to die not live forever! Besides it hurts the climate using that garbage os due to data centers collecting constantly among other things.

Point being, your suggestion of going back to windows is not above and beyond, its beneath and towards an endless abyss.

#266 Re: Off-topic » Regarding speed, of processors, » 2024-05-23 05:36:30

@Eeqmcsq thats a good point. And I also wondered, this because how much of 16GB let alone 32GB would I be able to use before it runs hot lol. And remember its DDR4.

#267 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] Chromium update ruined my shortcut to second profile » 2024-05-23 05:05:48

Strange... no idea why chromium did that.

I wonder if this happens on firefox.

Then again, modern firefox is becoming too chrome like, so maybe.

#268 Re: Off-topic » Regarding speed, of processors, » 2024-05-23 05:04:26

@Eeqmscsq

That would still be good enough for me. Besides, it probably will not heat up as easily as the I7-3520M. IT doesn't take much to heat that device up lol.

RK3588 probably will not only be better with heat transfer but also battery usage as well.

Even though pocket mnt reform would have a small battery, its screen is small, so... that helps the battery life. Can't say the same for the heat transfer though.

Appreciate your help in this.

Although I still have to wait for him to sell it. big_smile

#269 Re: Off-topic » Regarding speed, of processors, » 2024-05-23 04:46:30

@Eeqmcsq So basically I should expect speeds similar to a 2018 amd processor if I get the rk3588?

That's still better than the speeds I got now lol.

Currently, I have ivy bridge. This sounds like it would blow that out of the water potentially. By x2 at least if not more.

i7-3520M is what I have on this specific computer. 8GB of DDR3 ram also for a bit of info.

Not to mention 7 inch device with that would probably be even faster due to screen size as well.

Which definitely interests me.

#270 Re: Off-topic » Regarding speed, of processors, » 2024-05-23 03:32:22

@Eeqmcsq Actually, more specifically, which AMD processor is that and from what gen and what year was it produced?

And how good is it compared to current laptop grade processors? Or even 2012+ ones

If you could help answer that, it would help me.

I wondered how fast RK3399 and RK3588 would be compared to intel or amd processors.

Also, I wondered if 32GB of DDR4 RAM is worth it for the RK3588.

In that pocket mnt reform device. I assume 16GB makes more sense, but I also wonder what processors of intel and amd are those two rockchip devices comparable to.

I saw on some benchmarks it is only slightly faster than a sandybridge laptop on the one hand... but on the other hand in some benchmarks, it says the performance is close to that of the N100 intel celeron processor from 2021.

Anyone have any answers?

Wondering if its as capable as a six gen intel mobile processor.

Or if its better or worse and to what degree.

#272 Re: ARM Builds » Question regarding mnt reform, again, but different! » 2024-05-10 03:17:03

Thought I should add, the mnt reform original will soon be supported in using rk3588.

A processor close to half the speed of the Apple M1.

He is currently working on making it work for the pocket mnt reform too.

Anywho, just bumping to mention also, that the RK3588 is soon to be supported without the boot blob as well.

I make period jokes to people with puns like when I see an opening, so when I say you are really good at this, I mean you really ARE!

You don't need any jumpstart at all to do this, do you...

Not even someone saying something...

#275 Re: Hardware & System Configuration » How much RAM do I need to install a Devuan? » 2024-05-07 19:21:58

I thought I should mention, if you want to compile something from source, you probably want more like 4GB in some cases for ram.

The more jobs being done, the more ram being needed.

Although you also probably want a dual core ivybridge at minimum for that also. smile
