#1 Installation » Something is badly wrong with Veracrypt in Daedalus » 2023-08-16 19:10:17

Hi again all,

I found a very disturbing issue with Daedalus after upgrade from Chimaera.
I use veracrypt for encrypting partitions/file containers.
After the upgrade Veracrypt volumes started to mount without the need of authentication! How is that possible?
The normal behaviour is to enter the encryption password and then authenticate with sudo password to mount the volume. Now I enter the encryption password and the volume is mounted immediately and I can read and write to it!! I am obviously not logged in as root.

What on earth is going on? What could have possibly changed to cause this? Of course, the problem might be poor implementation of Veracrypt software in Linux, but it seems to work perfectly in Debian Bookworm and it used to work perfectly in Chimaera.

This is a serious security flaw. Hopefully someone could try reproducing it and confirming the problem.

#2 Installation » Suspend to RAM broken when running Xorg after upgrade from Chimaera » 2023-08-16 18:31:10

Hi all,

I am experiencing an issue with suspend to RAM after upgrading Chimaera to Daedalus.
If Xorg is running (I have configured rootless Xorg), suspend to RAM does not work. It hangs the system with blank display and I have to forcefully shutdown. No input is possible then, only CTRL-ALT-PrtScn+B works to reboot the system. I cannot start a tty with CTRL-ALT+Fkeys.

However, when issuing sudo pm-suspend from tty without starting the X server suspend to RAM works properly.
I guess this might be due to the changes in the way Xorg  controls rootless access, but I have no idea where to start trying to fix the issue.
Could someone help me/explain what exaclty changed in Xorg setup that could affect suspend to RAM?

Thanks all.

It is clear now. Great to know I can still continue to enjoy the stability of Jessie for a while.

Welcome to Devuan!  The 'official' answer is in the second sentence on the index page of the https://devuan.org/ website.

Thank you.

I assume that you mean Devuan Jessie is now under oldstable status? Please, correct if I am wrong.

Debian Jessie oldstable support has now ended and it is now under the LTS program, not provided by Debian security team, but by third parties.

If possible, I'd just like a clarification on how this works currently for Devuan.
Is there a Devuan security team that provides security updates for Jessie currently under oldstable release? Or do the security updates come mirrored from the Debian LTS program?
Will there be an LTS program for Devuan Jessie too, which will extend beyond the Debian Jessie's LTS?

Hi all,

I am new here at the forum and apologies if this has been asked before or seems obvious, but I did not find an answer in the official Devuan website or in the documentation.

I was wondering now that ASCII has been released, how long will Jessie be still officially supported?
Is it now receiving updates in the same way as Debian Jessie through the LTS program?
Is any change needed in sources.list to receive the updates?

I am asking because I usually do not like to jump on upgrades on my machines and would still like to continue use Devuan Jessie for some time.

I would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Devuan community for the amazing work they have done.
It is a fantastic operating system! I could not be happier with it.

Thank you so much!
