Add a Desktop Entry for the MiyoLinux Control Center

Well...I just realized that I neglected to make a desktop entry for the MiyoLinux Control Center so that it appears in the LXPanel and Xfce4 panel menus. tongue

I had added it manually to the Openbox menu...so since I'm an idiot, that's the only menu it shows up in. DOH! roll

So, if you would like to have it available in the LXpanel and Xfce4 panel menus, here's the quick'n dirty way...

1. Open your file manager, make it show hidden files, and navigate to...

/.local/share/

2. Right-click and create a new Folder named...

applications

3. Open the newly created applications folder. Right-click and create a new Empty file.

4. Name the file. You can name the file anything you want as long as another application isn't using the same name, and it has to end with .desktop (I named mine miyocc.desktop)

5. Copy and paste the following into the file...

[Desktop Entry]
Name=MiyoLinux Control Center
Comment=Customize the look, configuration, and settings of your system
Exec=/bin/miyo-cc
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Icon=/usr/share/miyolinux/miyolinux.png
Categories=Settings;

6. Save the file. Then close it.

The newly made file should now have the MiyoLinux icon with the name MiyoLinux Control Center underneath the icon. It should also now appear in all of your menus. smile

In the LXPanel menu, it will be in the Preferences category. In the Xfce4 Panel menu, it will be in the Settings category.

Sorry that I failed to do that when I built it. tongue

LOL! No...and yes!

After making that file, one could add it to the tint2 panel if they wanted to. big_smile

Re: Add a Desktop Entry for the MiyoLinux Control Center

I'm on my phone and doing this from memory...hopefully I'll get it right. tongue

In the right-click menu, under Settings in the General category, there is an application called Tint2 Panel (or Tint2 Settings). Click on it to open it.

When it opens, it will show previews of two panels. The one on top is the panel that's in use and should already be highlighted. Click the Edit button.

A new window will open. Look on the left side of that window, and click on Launchers.

The current launchers that are on your panel are on the left. In the middle are arrows, and on the right will be all of the available applications that you can add to the panel.

On the right, find the application that you want to add to the panel. Click the application one time to highlight it, and use the left arrow key to move it over to join with the current ones on your panel. You can also reposition the current launchers by using the up/down arrows. Same process...click once to highlight a launcher, and use the arrows to move it up or down...or use the right arrow to remove a launcher from the panel.

When you're finished, click Apply. The new launcher(s) should now be on your actual panel, and you can close the tint2 settings window.

But, I feel I'm in over my head, by trying such a minimal system.
I'm just`a new-user now...walking thru a forest of packages & apps...
only to dream, of some day ~ becoming an advanced user.

I mean, really ~ how to put an icon in the panel!? who asks that these days..!
I mean, really ~ I JUST got sound working last nite...after MINUTES of trying!
and now something is broken...I get music once I login ~ really loud too!

I cannot succumb to enjoy this experience, only advanced users are privy to...
If I do...I might install Miyo on ALL my `puters in the house!
I might slip-up and tell 2 friends...that may tell 2 friends...

Even my wife is oooh`ing and aaah`ing...at the sight of Miyo & Openbox!!
Thats gone tooo far...I must turn away with shame..not to put her thru this!

We must stay-the-course, and install bloated os's, with a ba-zillion dependences,
that come pre-installed with apps - we know nothing about & will never use..

We're not meant to Miyo-ourselves...seeing these things hurt the brain.
I've already hijacked this fine thread ~ with my regular-user ranting...
I will edit this post, after only thrashing myself, by installing micro-sh*t &
using my blind-eye..to enjoy Gbytes of unknown backdoors & databases of
personal information, sent to the mothership.
tongue

stanz, I like your style! big_smile

...and this...

L...O...L...!!!

I'll be honest, I can't tell how much of your post is serious or facetious. big_smile

I didn't think a thing about your inquiry about adding an icon on the tint2 panel. If someone isn't familiar with it, then by all means, I want to help them if possible. wink

I well remember my struggles when first using something new...especially when I was new to anything "Linux".  tongue

Re: Add a Desktop Entry for the MiyoLinux Control Center

I thought it might not be the best place to put a rant.
But, I am totally being seriously humorous...expressing most
of the fun I'm having, with Devuan & Your Miyo! yikes
I saw somewhere (can't find it now) stating "made for the advanced user".
I just thought it awesome to make my own!
And just as awesome that you & others are making that happen smile

So, a - regular user, can read, that another regular user {& wife wink }...has had FUN
Miyo~ing a minimal Devuan OS.
It's also shown, you offer whatever help & support you can, which
we all appreciate allot!

Thx
