Hey,
I am successfully running freia arm64 on a Raspberry Pi platform using the generic kernel (Linux aws 7.1.8+deb14.1-arm64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 7.1.8-2 (2026-08-15) aarch64 GNU/Linux) and Xorg (xorg-server 2:21.1.24-1devuan1).
Accidentally, the modesetting driver runs into problems showing the following error message...
(EE) modeset(0): Failed to make 1280x984x32bpp GBM bo
...over and over a hundred times, showing different resolutions, none of them is supported by my monitor nor specified in the xorg.conf file. The exactly same configuration (hardware as well as configuration files) runs perfectly fine on Chimaera.
While this error message keeps repeating, windows disappear from the screen so only the background remains there or remainders of scrambled window parts are visible where they shouldn't be *but* if I go with the cursor over where that window should be I see the mouse cursor changing where links would be i.e. in the web browser.
Before the error messages start, the Xorg.log looks fine w/o errors...

Any ideas? I tried different desktop systems, however all based on gnome (that would be gnome 4, gnome-flashback and cinnamon. All out of the official repository, needless to say.

As per man xorg.conf you might possibly need to specify something for the 32bpp display option.
I've long lived without an explicit xorg.conf, and you might consider to try as well. I.e., move away your xorg.conf, or at least the sections other that InputClass.
Generally it appears that for your monitor, Xorg wants to fit a 32bpp display option into your preference specification of 1280x1024x24bpp and is unhappy with the outcome of that. Perhaps a hand made mode line for 1280x984; or perhaps a second display section with FbBpp 32 and a known mode; or perhaps a nomodeset boot parameter; will avoid the issue.

I have tried my very best and went through the options you have provided, however I did not find a solution. Either my X server would not start at all (no screens available) when I hardcoded invalid resolutions or depths or when it did start, the problem remained the same.
When looking at those strange resolutions in the log files, I figured that those messages might not refer to the X server's own resolution, but reflect the size and position of the scrambled or invisible application windows. I am not sure if that makes any sense at all, and well over 30 years working with X11 I found I have no clue of how the X server is working internally.
To confirm or rule out a bug I replaced Xorg with Xlibre from a private repository mentioned in another thread here in the forum. Indeed, the error messages as well as the corrupt application windows were gone. The xlibre server however shows a noticeable and measurable decreased performance compared to Xorg in overall responiveness as well as GPU or WebGL related tests.
