Re: Vuu-do Linux! *New Openbox-64 iso's (1.0.7) up 2-02-18*!!

UPDATE: Discussion of latest Vuu-do development can be found at:
https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=6944

=========================================

Version 1.09 complete and uploaded, this contains all the bug fixes and tweaks as the 1.08 isos plus some, it's looking waaaay better. The version change is because I upgraded some 300 packages to the very latest available in the archive repo including a new kernel.

This should be the last minor version change for Vuu-do 1, if I find any more bugs or figure out more performance tweaks in the future i'll update the isos, and when FF comes out with a new ESR i'll update it then too. But they'll all be more 1.09's.

Next up: revisiting the idea of a Vuu-do 2 based on Daedalus wink

Re: Vuu-do Linux! *New Openbox-64 iso's (1.0.7) up 2-02-18*!!

Vuu-do 5.02 openbox mini and max versions compressed with zstd instead of xz for faster decompression during live sessions. 1st versions for testing. Results on older hardware tested so far are faster boot, faster program loading/opening and less lag time on first open, and faster install from liveUSB session. YMMV.

1-21-2025 maintenance updates of the 5.03 ob-z's, new kernel 6.1.0-30-amd64 ( last week's new kernel didn't last long) + other updates and one addition. More info available, blog and wiki both up now.

New updates to the 5.03 ob-max-z and also the Vuu-do-mate-mini this week. A mountain of improvement in the mate version, updated to 5.03 with theming, extra firmware, menu entries for the screenshooter and ALSA, fixed EQ bugs and more. Very nice and slick now.

And yet another update as I woke up to another new kernel today. All 5.03 versions of Vuu-do updated today and uploaded. Who's contributing to these buggy Linux/Debian kernels and why?

It would be good to hear from you, what problems are you having with the Debian (Devuan) kernel? Why are they buggy?

Re: Vuu-do Linux! *New Openbox-64 iso's (1.0.7) up 2-02-18*!!

Hi stopAI, it's not me that declared them buggy : https://lists.debian.org/debian-securit … 00023.html

I'm on the 4th kernel already this year, new one yesterday, and on 1-21 and 1-12. The others had similar warnings.

Haven't had issues myself, but since I put iso's online I feel like it's important for me not to have them up there using kernels with this warning:

"Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel that
may lead to a privilege escalation, denial of service or information
leaks."

But basically the question is rhetorical,  where the bugs are coming from has been in the news lately, i'm suggesting that it might not be the best idea to allow employees of a corrupt multi-billion dollar corporation famous for it's intentionally buggy software contribute to the Linux kernel.

Thank you for the answer.

And I think the most important thing is that software bugs are found and fixed. And as for these bugs, they have always been and will always be, because the Linux Kernel is a complex piece of software.

By the way, thanks for your project. It looks very promising.

Thank you for the kind words, I just needed to vent a bit as these recent things were so completely avoidable. But I am grateful they get found and dealt with.

I would like to just say that I am very impressed with this distro so far, I installed about three weeks ago and it has run flawlessly so far, congratulations! And thanks.

Re: Vuu-do Linux! *New Openbox-64 iso's (1.0.7) up 2-02-18*!!

Thank you so much! It really means a lot, I don't get a lot of feedback from my experiments and am always wondering if it's working out for folks who try it.

It's a lot of work, but very gratifying in the end and a great learning experience. But all credit really goes to the Dev team at Devuan, I have found over time that regardless of any upstream shenanigans, they still somehow manage to keep it sane and stable, so much so that even guys like me with a keyboard and too much time on their hands can't screw it up too badly, lol. wink

Re: Vuu-do Linux! *New Openbox-64 iso's (1.0.7) up 2-02-18*!!

New update of the ob-max-z uploaded today, minor security upgrades and Chromium updated.

Added qt5-gtk2-platformtheme package and an .xsessionrc file with an entry that makes
VLC (and any other apps that use QT5) abide by the chosen GTK theme. Working on doing the same
for QT6 apps.

Re: Vuu-do Linux! *New Openbox-64 iso's (1.0.7) up 2-02-18*!!

QT update going off my last post, QT6 can now be handled with qt6gtk2 in the exact same fashion as the qt5-gtk2-platformtheme works for QT5, in fact the .xsessionrc export command in the file in user's home doesn't even need to change, they'll work side-by-side for qt5 and qt6 apps.

Only app being stubborn is Calibre, and it has some artifacts and weird behavior, every other qt6 app works fine, and all qt5 apps work great.

qt6gtk2 packages can be found here: https://software.opensuse.org//download … ge=qt6gtk2

.xsessionrc : export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=gtk2

Updated iso's of the 5.03 ob-max-z and ob-mini-z uploaded just now. Security updates and I cleaned up some code and did some minor adjusting, nothing major but it's been a few weeks for the mini and the openssh update seemed pretty important for both.

Any chance I could get my entry at https://www.devuan.org/os/devuan-distros updated? Have had new versions based on current daedalus stable up for a couple months now. smile

Still have the Jessie versions up though, those are classics from the early days, gotta keep those up.
