problems with wifi, I can't activate it

I have a problem with Wi-Fi, wlan0 is deactivated hard and activated soft.

I have tried blacklist, with rfkill and everything has not worked. The issue is that the device has dual boot with W10 and the wifi works well. The problem is with Devuan... and I don't know why. I dropped it suddenly without doing anything and without warning. I thought my router was failing, but no. It has been the Linux configuration. The radio frequency won't let me activate it. Does anyone know how to help me, thank you.

Re: problems with wifi, I can't activate it

Hi, do you have the firmware loading at linux Devuan boot for the wifi device?

<edit> the package I use for my wifi card is the intel module/driver... firmware-iwlwifi and for bt, rtl8761bu_fw & rtl8761bu_config

inxi -E -N shows me this...

inxi -E -N
Network:
  Device-1: Intel Wireless-AC 9260 driver: iwlwifi
Bluetooth:
Device-1: Intel Wireless-AC 9260 Bluetooth Adapter type: USB driver: btusb
Report: hciconfig ID: hci0 state: up address: 40:74:E0:B2:FC:8B bt-v: 3.0

I have other *free and *non-free firmware packages installed, also...

I hope this helps you.</edit>

Re: problems with wifi, I can't activate it

inxi -E -N:

Device-1: Ralink RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe driver: rt2800pci
Device-2: Realtek RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet driver: r8169
Bluetooth:
  Device-1: Ralink RT3290 Bluetooth driver: N/A

And installed firmware:

firmware-iwlwifi and firmware-misc-nonfree y not work my wlan0....

sudo ip link set wlan0 up
77RTNETLINK answers: Operation not possible due to RF-kill
sudo rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: yes

I don't know what to do!! I don't know how to activate my wlan0 radio frequency and unblock it. Before this failure it worked fine with the rt2800pci driver one day it stopped working.... without knowing why or what caused it.

Re: problems with wifi, I can't activate it

What have you tried with rfkill?

I currently do not have rfkill installed, although I have seen some info on rfkill... like this web page

https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-manage-wifi-interfaces-with-rfkill-command-on-linux

... by interface ID or type for BT and wifi.

from another page suggests iwconfig... is power management enabled?

Re: problems with wifi, I can't activate it

There is a lot on the Internet about "Hard blocked".
The solutions are either a button (function keys) on the laptop, or “magic” - disconnect it from the power adapter, remove the battery and wait 10...15 minutes. smile

Re: problems with wifi, I can't activate it

@vendefoulwolf

Unfortunately, I can only guess (or fantasize, to be honest smile )
I haven't encountered this problem on my laptops.

If this is not a consequence of enabling airplane mode (keyboard shortcuts, etc.) and wifi works in Win, then almost every wifi chipset has a separate support line in the kernel configuration. I would try a live image of a different version or distribution.

Regards.

Re: problems with wifi, I can't activate it

I saw a guy on youtube switch a resister or something around in the wiring 180 and the NIC stopped working but on a reboot worked on windows.
some newer hardware seems to have sometimes weird setups even on the NIC.

The solutions are either a button (function keys) on the laptop, or “magic” - disconnect it from the power adapter, remove the battery and wait 10...15 minutes. smile

yes, pressing certain function keys sometimes works magic smile
