Devuan vs Arcolinux

Well, being the idiot that I am I just had to try Arcolinux,   Well  that didn't work out at all.  Weird terminal input, whisker showing in the wrong place and just in general not comfortable.   Soooo, here I came back.   Such a pleasure.  I have to stop these urges to try a new Linux Distro.

Re: Devuan vs Arcolinux

Arcolinux is a deriviate of Arch Linux. Latest software versions, but you need to take into account that it may be broken after the next update. Soemthing like Unstable in the Debian world. And you'd be better very experienced on the console.

If you want to try different distros, get a pendrive, put Ventoy on it, then add as many distros as you want, that will fit on it. wink

Re: Devuan vs Arcolinux

Arcolinux is just Arch with stuff pre-installed, including systemd.

Artix is Arch without systemd, and thus is the complement to Devuan (for those who want a rolling Pacman-based distro).

Agree.

There is a wonderful distribution without systemd  PclinuxOS. With a single system setup center, including the latest versions of programs, even some kind of browser specifically for the latest AMD processors.

The only drawback, for me at least, is the rolling release and you can only roll back to a previously taken snapshot of the system.
I witnessed on their forum when, after an update, a colleague was unable to log into his account  for some payments and the developers, despite their best efforts, could not help.

Re: Devuan vs Arcolinux

Nah, I think I will stay here..  Just more comfortable.   I am familiar with Arch at the commandline but Arco just didn't feel right even after installing the software I wanted.
At root level command line it would take 2x's to get a letter to show.
Whisker started up in the wrong place, top instead of bottom.
h well, all is good here.

Re: Devuan vs Arcolinux

I have two root partitions and a /home partition on all my computers.
And the second OS is some kind of distribution kit for such “walks”. smile

Never thought of that scenario.  Good idea.

Bro...distro-hopping is a fundamental right that 99.999% of Linux users go through. Hop a lot, then settle on the one (after a few years of hopping) that suits you best. After much hippity-hopping, I went with vanilla Debian. After a little more hop-scotch, I settled on Devuan.

Take your time, explore, and enjoy the journey. smile

Re: Devuan vs Arcolinux

Thanks, that is exactly what I am doing now after Devuan went totally south.  lol
I'll probably be back again sometime.

Re: Devuan vs Arcolinux

You can try Artix linux. Artix Linux is a rolling-release distribution, based on Arch Linux. It uses real init systems, because PID1 must be simple, secure and stable.
