My fav theme if I can be bothered. I love how you get the source svg's so can modify them easily. Gpl'd

Re: Anyone where to find more cartoony old icons for jwm?

Take a look at buuf-deuce.  An updated variations of the old buff icon set.

https://github.com/antiX-Linux/buuf-deuce-icons

you can find a .deb in the antix repository
http://repo.antixlinux.com/bullseye/poo … uce-icons/

Also the gnome-extra-icons is a nice combination of cartoon and pixel art set of icons. Look like a something you'd find on an old Commodore Amiga, or Atari ST
you find it in the debian repository.

The buff-deuce icon set was used in andyprough's Libre-antiX 21 respin and my variation of it labeled as Libre-antiX-JWMKit-respin.  Both feature buuf-deuce-icons and JWMKit.

Nice icon set but I always thought they were non-free in a GNU sense If they're the same icons as these

Good eye Kelsoo.  As you have stated the icons are licensed under the CC-BY-SA   CC BY-NC 3.0 license by the original artist.  Although you can find various repackaged/remixed version under the GPL.  I don't know if they were re-license with permission, or if some one made a packaging error and others just went with it.

I guess you meant CC BY-NC 4.0 or similar version.

Lots of things could have changed the license either way and there and back again.

I tried to figure out the history of the licensing and cc-by-whatever last year when you and I were hacking on it, but it looks like that rabbit hole goes down further than what I explored previously. It's possible that the icons themselves are copyrighted under one creative commons license and that the distro packages are gpl but they are just the installers for going out and grabbing those icons?

I probably won't do another Libre-antiX respin with them for the time being, or unless I can contact the original artist and clarify the status.

If Mattahan is the original artist, there's an email address on their DeviantArt About page...?

Yes.  Thank you again.  It appears I got the abbreviation wrong.  Sorry about that. I definitively would not want to add to the confusion. It should be CC BY-NC 2.5 for standard buff, and CC BY-NC 3.0 for Buuf Deuce.

Re: Anyone where to find more cartoony old icons for jwm?

@zapper.  Look at some of these.

https://smokey01.com/icon-sets/

The icon sets are .pet packages.  So you will have to extract the icons from the package.

I think following set might be of interest: GartoonPup, Gartoonredux, HaikuPup, Noia-Warm, Nuovo-001, Puppy-gant, and Retrosmart. But there may be more you can pull some icons from.

I've notice that puppy kind of makes it's own desktop standard.  So you may need to rename some of the files to follow the standard desktop specification.
I have also noticed a lot of these cartoon style icons are .png.  So they will be less optimal in terms of both quality, and performance/resource usage when compared to .svg
