Average Uptime of Your Devuan Systems?

What's the average amount of days in uptime that you keep your Devuan-installed systems on before a reboot is necessary?

Although I'm using Devuan Ceres full-time, I usually keep mine on for at least thirty days (but even longer for systems that aren't my top priorities), provided there are no issues needing to be resolved in that time frame. I'm not a fan of rebooting every other hour because an update broke something or I just did a minor kernel upgrade, although I keep in mind to not go crazy on the energy costs (I know you can hibernate, but I don't trust it at all). Nevertheless, all my systems are hooked up via UPS, in case shit hits the fan.

How about your systems? I'd like to keep one going for several months or even a whole year, but I'm in an area where air quality is generally bad and dust builds up quickly.

Re: Average Uptime of Your Devuan Systems?

I have small single board system, UDOO X86, which I use as a backup server for my notebook.  It is currently running Devuan Beowulf,  I only reboot it for kernel upgrades, or failures in the backup software, Duplicati.  It has often run for months.  It has been up for 30 days today.  It does not have a proper enclosure, but the dust has not caused any problems for a couple of years now.

The answer is very different if we talk about servers or desktops.

I have no server now with Devuan, but I have been using Debian in servers for years. Uptime is very high (years) if I don't update kernel and high (months) if I do. Main issue is power, I use professional UPS.

For desktops, I usually power them down when I go to sleep.

Uptime records mean outdated kernels.
Uptodate kernels mean β„’frequentlyβ„’ interrupted services.
:-/

I see that conflict, and I have it too, and I'm definitely not proud on running outdated kernels on some serving minions.

My longest runner (beowulf@armhf) is nearing 100 days uptime now.
Updates not needing a reboot are applied, but getting that one's kernel updated definitely is overdue!
Ok... I'll do it now... sorry for the IRC noise!
The majority of the interruptions only will impact my LAN...

Re: Average Uptime of Your Devuan Systems?

As correctly indicated, it differs between desktops and servers. My desktop gets shut down every night, but my file server runs 24/7. It had, at one time, an uptime of over 2 years (yes, really!) as I ran Debian oldstable at the time, 'cause that didn't have systemd in it roll  More recently, it had well over 100 days worth before rebooting it as it had mysteriously lost connectivity for a few days. Then last night I accidentally shut it down and rebooted only this morning. Normality has been restored. I think... hmm
