My answer was was not related to the power-supply-USB-problem; it was for seeing whats inside '/proc/config.gz' !

Yes, I know.

What I meant to say was that what I thought was an issue ie: usb-storage.ko not being present was not the problem as it was part of the kernel.
The problem actually being a power supply one.
