How to install and configure Roger-Router in Devuan 2

Hello everybody,

was surprised to find the package in my VM with:

apt-cache search roger

first installed only "roger-router" than also "ffgtk" and finally everything with:

sudo apt install --reinstall roger-router* ffgtk

first start "roger" from Application-Menu, an error-message could not open /var/spool/roger no permission,
starting over the "cli" didn't happen nothing no error message, nada, even the start with:

sudo -i roger-router

don't bring anything.
After install of "ffgtk" got the same, after installed "roger-router-cli" starting it with and without "Root-Privileges" give the same results.

The only thing happen after starting "roger-router-cli" with Root-Privs..., if afterward i start "roger" over menu disappear fast immediately without  any error message.

Have someone of you step-by-step instruction (better for newbie) on how to install and configure "Roger" properly?

Thank you All in advance and best regards.

The project webpage is here, even in German so you should be able to follow it wink

https://tabos.gitlab.io/project/rogerrouter/

Which links further to

https://gitlab.com/tabos

As I have no need for the services this program provides (who uses a fax these days!) I can't tell you anything about its functions.

Re: How to install and configure Roger-Router in Devuan 2

Thanks for your answer first,

i know this link including the instruction to install in "Debian 9 Strech", equivalent of our Devuan ASCII
https://software.opensuse.org//download … kage=roger, but... do you mean i should install the *deb-Package (of Debian) or use the method mentioned here https://wiki.debian.org/CreatePackageFromPPA by including "debian 9"-repo and adapt to ascii? And how do this? I'm not so experienced with it!

Sincerely!? The tests under normal Kubuntu (18.04) was not god even with PPA and instructions picked around, besides, Tabos (and other places/pages) instruct to add the "Fax-Printer" manually with:

lpadmin -p Roger-Router-Fax -m drv:///sample.drv/generic.ppd -v socket://localhost:9100/ -E -o PageSize=A4

this don't work under Devuan (at least not in VM/VB).

In my Fritz!Box is a fax already integrated but this has a very big headline taking 25-33% of DIN-A4, this want avoid because, even fax is no more required on daily-basis (as in the past) but when today needed, cannot send such "transformed" pages.

The original "ffgtk" was god (practically the copy of original "Fritz!Fax) as well the first versions of "roger", but become worse and worse with time.

Nonetheless, the addition of a PPA for "Debian 9", picking only the source as mentioned in second Link and build the packages from those for Devuan could be interesting thing for other (more reliable) applications or mess completely the system.
But That's another story.
