After having installed Excalibur (not updated from Daedalus) printing with lprng and apsfilter was only possible with the raw (not filtered) sending of data to the printer.
Under Daedalus everything is fine. I compared the versions - Daedalus vs. Excalibur:
lprng: 3.8.B-6 vs. 3.8.B-9
apsfilter: 7.2.6.-3 vs. 7.2.6-5
So I exclude the new versions as the reason.
I use a Brother printer with PS 3 capabilities with no existing ppd, so it is defined as a generic Postscript-printer. Printcap got two entries. One for auto(matic) searching of the right filter, printer queue lp1, one for sending PS-files directly to the printer (raw) as lp2.
Envoking lpc shows 2 queues enabled. Using "lpr -Plp2 filename.ps" the printer gets the data and prints, using lp1 nothing happens.
Someone has an idea why? Lacking packets in Excalibur?
I could imagine that the problem doesn't exist when updating from Daedalus. Most of you probably are using cups - I have my reasons not to use it. I changed to magicfilter replacing apsfilter, dvi-files (LaTeX) are printed correctly, other file-formats like PNG were not yet tested.
