Oh dear...yes it does.

I'll try and make another icon with a light (and thin) circle around it within the next few of days...though just that swoosh is pretty awesome! LOL!

Thanks for the link.  My panel is actually the bg color of that icon so all I see is the swoosh.

DOH! I "almost" put a light circle around the icon. Maybe I should do that when I have time. Thank you golinux. smile

Hi everyone!

Hopefully this is okay for me to post this; if it's not, any moderator can feel free to remove it.

In my off-time, I've taken the liberty of slightly customizing the Devuan Menu Icon. All that I've done is give it the slightest bit of shine. I love the flat color icon, but I couldn't resist customizing it. So...while flat themes and icons are all the rage right now, if anyone is interested in using this icon for your menu button, feel free to use it.

It can be downloaded from my pCloud account...here's the link.

Here's a screenshot; as you can see, there's just the slightest difference. Click the picture to enlarge it.

I realize that this subject probably isn't of dire importance at this point, but I thought I would go ahead and throw it out here. wink

I have a couple of people (who are still using 32bit computers) whom I've gotten interested in Devuan. Both of them expressed interest in whether Devuan plans to continue 32bit support for the foreseeable future.

Has this subject been broached at all yet? If so, what was the consensus if I may ask?

Thank you!

One of the things that I immediately noticed and appreciated about Devuan (from my personal experience) is that it uses slightly less resources than Debian. smile

Hi,

the best way to "thank" Devuan is to help making it survive, grow, and prosper. Please consider whether you can contribute with any of the things indicated in the "wishlist" here:

  https://devuan.org/os/debian-fork/stabl … nce-050517

under the section "Anyone can help Devuan". Hang out on the IRC channel #devuan (freenode) to find fellow Devuaners, or roll your sleeves up and shout on #devuan-dev to get in touch with devs and offer your help.

Devuan is not much about "making a point", rather about "drawing a new path". And everyone is responsible for making this new path become real

Yes, thank you KatolaZ. There are many ways to help Devuan, and any way that we can help is worthy.

Some here know my situation. As such, I have (and will continue) donating financially to the Devuan project and will continue to spread the word.

Have a great day! smile

I just want to say a quick thanks to everyone who is involved with the Devuan project. Throughout the years that I've used Linux...and I've tried them all...from A to Z (Arch to Zenwalk) ... and everything in between. wink I have to say that after all of it, I've never been as excited as I am about Devuan. big_smile

From those who are at the forefront of development to those who are working behind the scenes and may not get the recognition you deserve...you have my utmost and sincere thanks and admiration.

Thank you...and again I say, "Thank you!"

I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with it greenjeans...no problem with it in any form...no problem, nada, zero, zilch. wink

greenjeans wrote:

Yes sir...feel free to keep whatever you want to use. In fact, feel free to rename the window borders to whatever you like. I'm not jealous over Miyo or any aspect of it. Greenjeans, I want you to know beyond a shadow of a doubt...be assured that as far as I'm concerned, you are free to do whatever you want to do with it. I don't even want you to feel as though you have to acknowledge Miyo in any way, shape, or form if (and when) you release your distro. wink

greenjeans wrote:

Thanks again for being so cool about me doing a re-spin, and for Miyolinux itself, best openbox system i've tried since Crunchbang went bye-bye and nicer (to my taste) than even the mighty #! used to be. wink

To be honest, and I mean this sincerely...the thanks should go to Devuan and fsmithred. All that I did was use what they provided and added a little customization. As a developer (and I use that term very loosely about myself), I'm not much. In fact, I was a bit of a Devuan rebel by including gvfs. LOL!

I don't consider Miyo as mine. smile So whoever spins it, spins their own. Whoever borrows from it or does anything with it, makes it their own. MiyoLinux (for what it's worth) belongs to whoever and however they want it, how they envision it, or how they use it. wink I just wish I could have given them a better base to work with...and hope that I didn't embarrass Devuan or fsmithred in the process.

All that I did was piggy-back on Devuan and fsmithred...and made it available to others. I saw a need for a very minimal system which would allow users the ability to add only what they wanted to their system...something that many major distros seem to ignore. Granted, it's not for everyone...but I just felt there was a need for it. As an Openbox lover, Openbox was the environment that I chose to use. Experienced users can do what I did; all that I did was save them a little bit of time. wink  I didn't get it perfect, but I think that all-in-all, it served the purpose and vision that I had for it...and I apologize to anyone who may have experienced difficulty with Miyo...

Still, I thank you for the kind words greenjeans. All of this has been a bright spot for me lately, and I thank you for it. Take care my friend. smile

Edited to add: Folks...you ought to try greenjeans spin...you'll like it!

greanjeans,

I've been running it live, and I have discovered one MAJOR issue...

...now I want to install it! LOLOLOL!

Well done man...WELL DONE!

That conky on/off switch is absolutely great, and I like what you did with the wallpaper too! Your additions (and subtractions) are perfect.

What you've done stands on its own and deserves it's own name (if you're so inclined). I'm flattered that you kept it associated with Miyo, but that wasn't necessary by any means as far as I'm concerned friend. smile

#1237 Re: Devuan Derivatives » [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded » 2017-04-16 01:43:22

I'll download it as soon as I'm at my computer later! What you've done looks amazing, and I really really like how you changed the theme!

Thanks for sharing and making it available! Can't wait to try it out. smile

#1238 Re: Devuan Derivatives » [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded » 2017-04-15 01:48:02

Wow...and I thought the Miyo .isos were small! I was just dreaming! Haha!

135 MBs at idle? That's a 64bit too, right? Wow...and I thought the 64bit Miyo idling around 160 was low! I was just dreaming!  LOL!

Glad you like the window border. I did spend a good bit of time trying to find what I felt were the right colors...and I'm not a fan of borders around the buttons. I couldn't find window borders that I wanted to use on Miyo, so I made my own. wink

Can't wait to try your OS out!

greenjeans, forgive me! I was reading over this and realized you were speaking of the lightdm background (which you obviously stated); however, I thought you were talking about the grub background for some reason (stinkin' medicine!!!).

To make the lightdm background use the image that you want, you need to go to...

/etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf

Open the lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf file with your text editor (the file is small, so no need to give you the line number). wink

Under [greeter] is...

background=

Just put the full file-path to the image you want to use. Such as...

background=/usr/share/images/my-picture.png

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

#1241 Re: Devuan Derivatives » [MiyoLinux] New Releases Uploaded » 2017-04-13 22:34:52

Ah...okay. I couldn't remember about the image size. Yes, I just made a copy of the picture then, renamed it desktop-grub.png, put it in /usr/share/images/desktop-base, and ran update-grub. If I understand, you changed the grub background to the dark, but it's still showing the blue? If that's not what you meant, I apologize. If it is what you meant, just replace the picture with the one you want to use (rename it desktop-grub.png), then run sudo update-grub in the terminal.

I almost put a menu launcher on the panel, but opted not to. I'm not sure how much you've changed, but Miyo has 2 options for opening the menu with the full desktop covered...

1. Right click the tint2 panel, and the menu opens.
2. I included a keyboard shortcut...the W is the Windows key...
W + spacebar

Well...as the name says...Make it your own! LOLOLOL! wink  No need for apologies. The update notifier was mainly just one item to help Miyo stand out as something a little bit different.

Yes sir, unfortunately I didn't include much wireless firmware on Miyo...that was one of my regrets.

As to the grub background...the one that I used was a resized version of the wallpaper. I can't remember for sure, and I could be wrong, but it seems like the grub background's image size is supposed to be something like 640 x 480. Maybe someone can confirm or correct that. However, the Lightdm background is the actual wallpaper (same image and size as the wallpaper).

Looking forward to seeing your finished product! wink

Nice to see you around, miyo!

I tried building miyolinux with devuan's live-sdk, but I failed to get all the configs right. Haven't had time, but I'd like to get back to that and arrange all the blend files so that they can be dropped into one directory in live-sdk, and then anyone will be able to make their own "make it your own", always with the latest updates. (packages are pulled from the repo for the build.)

live-sdk can be automated, and you don't need to keep two installations to build for i386 and amd64. In fact, you don't even need one installation of the blend you're building unless you're creating a new blend and need to figure out what goes where.

Yes sir...I'm still kicking! smile

In my simple understanding, what you've described sounds amazing, yet I'm having a brain-meltdown trying to envision it! LOLOLOL!

I look forward to seeing what you (and greenjeans) come up with. Take care my friend!

Hey, question when you have time: where did you get obmenu-generator from? did you have to compile yourself?  The look of the menu itself is really nice, much better than the plain-jane default menu, how do you get it to look like that?

No sir...no compiling necessary, you can grab the .deb file from here...be warned, it does pull in some dependencies.

https://software.opensuse.org/download. … -generator

I did have to do a good bit of customization after installing it though...the files will be in the obmenu-generator folder located in ~/.config/obmenu-generator (after installation). You can see the schema.pl file and how it's laid out in Miyo there. There's another file (can't remember the name of it right now, but it's in the same folder as the schema file in Miyo). In that "other" file, there's a couple of changes you will need to make in order for the menu to use the correct terminal and text editor that you include in your distro.

By the way, Mr. Greenjeans was my favorite on Capt. Kangaroo when I was a kid! Thanks for the memories!

Hope that helps!

Edited to add: the other file is called config.pl
On a new install of the .deb file, it may not show up at first. If it doesn't, open your terminal and run...

obmenu-generator -p -i

That should cause the config.pl to appear.

Swapped some icons i like into the livecd environment while it was running, they go pretty good with the black/gray theme, probably gonna use them and a few other MIYO inspirations and roll a re-spin a la greenjeans. ;-)

Thank you for this!  Yes, it is nice and purpy now. Good to hear that the Mate icons were default. Where can I dl the "Fabo-Mono" icon set?  Not one hit on google for it.  I would like to recolor them to a more compatible hue (currently too pink and those bright blue ones would have to go). That would give users another option.  Was the DMZ (white) mouse icon theme also default?  Cheers for all your excellent contributions!

Oh no ma'am...I didn't mean to give the wrong impression. Neither the Purpy theme nor Mate icons became default in MiyoLinux after the update...they just became "a part of and available" to use in MiyoLinux after the update. My apologies for not clarifying that.

As to where to download the Faba-Mono icons...that was a typo. I wrote Fabo where I should have written Faba. Again, my apologies.

I borrowed them from the distro that originally turned me into an Openbox fan and user. I don't know if it's proper here on the forum to mention non-Devuan distros, so what I will do is give you the link to download them from me. I downloaded them from that distro's Sourceforge page. If you or another Moderator says that it's okay to mention the distro's name and/or download link, I'll give it. Otherwise, my download is the exact same as what you'd get from their Sourceforge page...since that's where I got it from. wink

Here's the link where you can download them from me. Be aware though golinux, the download includes both Faba-Mono and Moka icons. wink

Thank you for your kind words. smile Here's the download link...

https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code … NeE5Rm5Wf7

Edited to add: Yes, the DMZ cursor theme is "sort of" default in MiyoLinux. I have it set as the default cursor; however, Adwaita (black) still shows on the Lightdm login screen.

Since MiyoLinux is a base system allowing users to do what they want, I didn't want to force a cursor on them. Users can still set the default cursor by opening their terminal and running the following command...

sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme

...then enter the number that corresponds with their cursor of choice. I personally prefer the  white oxygen cursor myself. wink

Thanks again...
