@zapper . . . Thanks. The colors are subtle and really pop out when it is full screen
I have and was hoping everyone else had too. I just had to have the last word . . .
Hey greenjeans . . . I have an idea that you may or may not like. I created a desktop background graphic for excalibur. It is an anti-war statement named "deathmetal". It combines the dark metal of a sword (I looked at a LOT of them) with a tinge of "gangrene" which is a possible result to the victim. Feel free to use it if you like. If it doesn't suit you, that's fine too.

I tried to get someone to further develp that theme but no takers.
I am going to post another link here because it reminds me of the Trixie release notes. I have skimmed that long and detailed oeuvre but not gotten too deep. It seems that Wayland is just more fruit from the poisoned tree:

Perhaps it is time to put in more effort to ensure that xorg remains a viable option. Time to step up, folks!
And in you, igorzwx, a symptom of delusional arrogance on steroids.
Wrong person to ask. I am just the messenger sharing an image . . .
And if you "hate to be that guy", just don't be that guy. It's as simple as that!
That graphic also keeps morphing as new systemd dependencies are introduced. Something like the green slime . . . LOL!
Have a look at this graphic hairball and decide for yourself.
@32bits . . . Thank you for your interesting thoughts and also the "French" refresher course (which I could still read).
You asked about why/how we have chosen our release names. One of our first developers was an astronomer. So we decided to pick our release names from the list of Minor Planet Names. The list is very long so we knew we wouldn't run out of options! There are names there from many cultures but it is true that we have gravitated to more European and Latin-based choices and that has become part of our identity . . .
aitor . . . is Escalibur your "Basque" version?
Escalibur does not exist. Try excalibur.
@zapper . . . I suggest you get to know greenjeans and his motivations better. He is doing it not only for the challenge but for people in his local community and I accept your apology on his behalf!
I couldn't understand what he was saying, silly!
That might as well be in Swahili. It is unintelligible to my old ears. Don't you have better things to do, zapper? Try staring at a blank wall. It would be preferable to that nonsense . . .
Welcome to Devuan, Codalunga!
Devuan's fiscal sponsor is dyne.org so that would be a question for them to answer. I have sent an email on another matter so will ask them to also answer your question.
However . . . Devuan needs more than financial support. Please consider volunteering your technical talents to devuan development if you have the skills to do so.
A better question might be, why are you using anything Pulse Audio?

DONE!
Many species are tool makers. Sadly, the tools/solutions that humans create often prove to be more destructive than beneficial. We just keep bumbling along without much of a clue, following our whims (and profits) and more or less making it up as we go along. The fashions change. Tools change. Challenges change. But we never seem to learn that the solution is not OUT THERE or with the latest gizmo. The solution is internal for each and every one of us to discover.
Or . . . you could turn off the machine and wander through a forest and understand that the machine is about to create an unlivable environment for our species.
@stargate-sg1-cheyenne-mtn . . . I found https://www.vhemt.org/ many years ago . . . possibly even before Devuan existed! I know I posted a link to that site somewhere on this forum but alas, atm my search fu sucks. The VHEMT message was not new to me. I had figured that out in the 70s and did not contribute the exploding population. We are definitely the most destructive species on the planet.
/me sends greenjeans a virtual hug . . .
@chomwitt . . . Sentient beings are driven mostly by desire and anger and sunk in delusion with only an occasional dollop of generosity or kindness or clarity coming to the surface. Look around the world. There are still caste systems and slavery and wars and oppression alive and well. Now not pharaohs but corporate-driven states and power-hungry madmen. "Technical progress" as the solution is not only a deluded fantasy but dangerous when those in charge are incompetent. It has ever been thus. We keep moving laterally, entranced by new toys thinking that will "fix" things yet we always end up with a rerun that's been played out since the Neanderthals walked the earth. Until WE evolve we'll keep endlessly playing out the same dynamic.
Machines work for free. Humans are becoming obsolete except for replication which has long since overpopulated the planet. Humans think they are smart. Yet our fascination with shiny new toys has gotten us to where we are and we have learned absolutely nothing. Humans better get a clue or extinction will take care of us. The final solution . . . finally
Well . . . you do not surprise (or entertain) me. Whatever the "bait" was escapes me. Zzzzzzzzzz . . .
Well . . . look what the cat dragged in!
We give a lot of leeway to those who use this forum to beat their favorite drum but contribute little to nothing to Devuan's existence. At some point, enough is enough. I doubt that many forums would have the patience that this thread has enjoyed for so many years.
All the best to you quickfur . . . wherever you land!
