Oh boy . . . I wish I hadn't clicked on this link written by someone in the GMO/biotechnology resistance movement for decades:
https://www.scanthehorizon.org/p/dnai-t … telligence

Buckle up as a new artificial world rises to dominance. Though after the chestnut
debacle, I'm counting on more misfires than usable results . . . Playing god will
inevitably have consequences . . .

#577 Re: Off-topic » Search babble » 2024-01-11 20:23:48

@quickfur . . . It might have felt that way to you but that was not the important takeaway because I really don't care what browser you use or what choices you make in your life. But it is to your benefit to understand why and how you make those decisions. If humans chose more wisely, we wouldn't be in the mess in which we currently find ourselves.   wink

Yes, I think we have a winner that fits in well with the character of this forum!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the discussion that helped to get us there!!

#579 Re: Off-topic » Search babble » 2024-01-11 00:18:10

You keep looking outward . . . when the root of the problem is an inner dynamic . . . smile

#580 Re: Off-topic » Search babble » 2024-01-10 23:04:42

Regarding this rephrased rationale:

The reason I use xxxxxx is not because I agree with their practices but because their xxxxxxx is technologically the best . . .

Do you have any idea how much evil and destruction has been done to this planet and its inhabitants with that logic?

And yes, of course it is a choice . . . unfortunately, humans usually make the wrong one(s) and end up paying for it individually and collectivelyl

#581 Re: Off-topic » Search babble » 2024-01-10 22:35:14

For me it's a matter of ethics . . .

The question is: Does the end justify the means!

Impulses and rationalizations can quickly become a slippery slope so I evaluate choices very carefully to protect my own integrity and ensure I am not just blindly satisfying this or that impulse . . .

I do not want to touch Google because it is not my friend and I will not participate in supporting it.

#582 Re: Off-topic » Search babble » 2024-01-10 21:44:20

@zapper . . . I added link here.

#583 Re: Off-topic » Search babble » 2024-01-10 18:27:06

I am probably going to split your posts off into a search engine discussion thread because you are still OT for this thread.

DONE!

#584 Re: Off-topic » Search babble » 2024-01-10 17:04:56

@quickfur . . . Please clarify . . . what does phpBB have to do with this forum? And a plug for GooGoo? Really? We are smarter than that at Devuan! We are trying to collect useful data in this thread not random, irrelevant nonsense . . .

This forum is a treasure trove of information but what is the best way to access it? This thread is an exploration to discover if Devuan users have any special tips/tricks for drilling down specific searches using  this forum's function or with 3rd party search engines. Would be nice to list them in an easily accessible format which would hopefully reduce the number of posts asking the same question(s).  Let's see what you've got! If it comes up empty, that's a data point too. big_smile

@alexkemp . . . Good point! I'll leave the discussion open a while longer before making the change. Thanks for the feedback!

#588 Re: News & Announcements » The dev1galaxy.org (almost) No Code of Conduct » 2024-01-09 01:16:04

OK folks . . . will this wording change work for you??

Adult behavior based on a foundation of mutual respect is expected from visitors to this forum regardless of age.

#589 Re: News & Announcements » The dev1galaxy.org (almost) No Code of Conduct » 2024-01-08 23:24:11

@zapper . . . Love your new signature! Will consider the clarification suggested . . .

#590 Re: News & Announcements » The dev1galaxy.org (almost) No Code of Conduct » 2024-01-08 21:57:08

Good grief . . . Please read this post for clarification of "adult" in the context of this forum.

That was roughly 30' ago and it has not yet appeared on the list of 'newest messages'.

It landed in moderation and I deleted it as you instructed to ignore it. At least it did arrive so something else is broken @hendrik's setup . . .

#592 Re: Other Issues » I can read but not send to the DNG mailing list » 2024-01-08 02:00:22

I monitor that list and your emails are not being held in moderation. You used to be able to post and absolutely nothing has been changed on dyne's end. Seems I remember you recently had a failure of some sort in your networking set up. My guess is that the problem is there . . .

#593 Re: Devuan » Broken compatibility with recent upgrade » 2024-01-08 00:20:31

It is almost certain that it cannot be avoided. Extensive discussion on the dng mail list.

@phaoost . . . If you want to run  ceres aka sid . . . you get to keep all the pieces. smile

Well said zapper! This document has been around for a very long time. I self-hosted this forum for about 2 years before it replaced the original Discourse which was not really suited for Devuan users. According to the above posts, 2016-12-03 17:43:38 was the last time it was edited but then I can't remember if I made any minor 'silent' edits.

#597 Re: Off-topic » USA Foods » 2024-01-05 21:20:12

@quickfur . . . Did you read my posts at the beginning of this thread? I've been following and engaging in food quality issues since the 70s . . . long before there were any organic standards. If you want the whole story, try email . . .

#598 Re: Off-topic » USA Foods » 2024-01-05 18:25:03

WOW! Even I am not that cynical because I have know too many folks trying to do the right thing the right way . . .

All I know is that whatever I'm eating/doing keeps my system happy . . .

@andyp67 . . . you are ballooning the forum logs with personal ramblings that have no place in a technical forum.  Please find a more appropriate venue to do that . . .
