I agree with spartrekus that pulseaudio is crap. I avoid anything made by its author.

I have something on my computer made by Lennart Poettering?  mad  I avoid anything that guy makes.

Can I get more info on how to disable this crap? I have no idea what rcconf is.

When I first tried Devuan, I had no idea which installation option I should use. So it was confusing for me. And the one I did download didn't work. Maybe I downloaded the wrong one? Thankfully the Miyo installation file worked. I can appreciate where esr is coming from on this issue, and most of the other things he has said. If he can start his own derivative of Devuan, I'd help any way I could (which would probably be limited to be a beta tester).

I took what he wrote to mean that he tried to install Devuan over top of Mint. Any other way wouldn't be possible, right? It seems he is knowledgeable enough to know that.

He has tried a Devuan install:

Hi Vargr, I've come over to Devaun from Mint also. It really isn't that hard. If you have questions, just post them here. This is a friendly forum.  smile

Did you download the app via Synaptic? That might be the problem as the repo version is too old to work with youtube videos. I download the app straight from their website (using wget) which gives you the current version:

Should we consider this as good news or bad news? Or neutral news?

I totally deleted the line, "sleep 0.5" and the line itself. That was the right way to do it, right? It seems to have made the delay a (very) tad bit shorter.

Thanks GNUser. smile

Thanks GNUser, sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/atril did the trick. There's just one little annoyance . . . when I open Atril (and AbiWord), it first opens unmaximized for a split second, before going maximized. But I can live with that (I'm guessing there's nothing that can be done about that).

#462 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] How to get these 2 apps to open maximized? » 2018-10-28 04:25:02

@GNUser, it isn't working for me. When I open Atril (from the desktop icon) it still doesn't open maximized.

Thanks golinux. I'm using Mate. The "Save Current Settings as Default" option didn't help. Any other ideas?

Interesting article. How do you disable IPv6? Is disabling it a bad idea?

There are two apps, specifically AbiWord and Atril, that don't open in a maximized window. What can I do to get them to always open maximized? I did a search but came up empty. And, closing them while maximized will not make them open next time maxed.

I guess none of you are on the Devuan mail lists or IRC. Perhaps this is a wakeup call to get more involved . . . .  Devuan is not going anywhere.  Someone from Debian did reach out to us and Devuan devs are now cooperating and contributing to ensure sysvinit functionality in Debian.  Devuan devs are also working actively on runit and openrc.

Glad to hear this. I had been worried reading this thread, until I saw the above quoted post.

Sorry. It's on ASCII (Miyo) with Mate. If you want anything else, please let me know.

Yes. I found out about it yesterday on a different forum.

I just noticed this today. I'm not sure if the last update caused this, or a previous one. When on the desktop, left click and hold, and drag the mouse. Before, it would dim the dragged area, but you could still see what was in it. Now, it puts a white area where you drag and you can't see anything behind it. I know I probably didn't explain this well, so here's a screenshot. Anyone else noticing this? It's not a big deal but I thought it should be reported.

#471 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Testing Exe GNULinux / Trinity Desktop » 2018-09-27 21:37:22

I think the best way for me to go is to do a dual boot, and use Miyo since I already do the same thing with it for Mate.

BTW, does anyone know if ExeGNU's creator is a member of the forum?

Thanks for sharing MiyoLinux. I don't think I'm that brave though. It's times like this I wish I had a spare computer to experiment on.

Okay, I guess that's out. I'll have to think what I want to do.

BTW, is Exe GNU Linux no longer being maintained?

#474 Re: Devuan Derivatives » Testing Exe GNULinux / Trinity Desktop » 2018-09-25 03:13:51

Thanks for the help fsmithred. Possible last questions:

1) If I decided to dual boot with Exe GNU/Linux, how would I update it to Stretch?
2) And, how to add the correct repos for current updates?

Dual-boot first. If you want TDE on ascii, you could upgrade the exegnu or you could add TDE to a fresh ascii install. There are instructions for devuan at the TDE site. Mixing TDE with Mate in the same installation might cause some conflicts with session managers. Doing this on a test install would be the less stressful way to go.

That's what I figured . . . dual boot is safer. But it is more of an annoyance.  smile

If I decide to go ahead and do the dual boot, that leads me to another question. What is the difference between Devuan's live .iso and the installation .iso? The reason I ask is because I tried straight Devuan first before any derivatives, and the install just did not run smooth (I mean after the install, not the install process). I really don't remember if I downloaded the live .iso or the installation .iso. Could it be that if I installed from the live .iso (is that even possible?) that was the cause of it not running good?
