Can someone tell me where to find a clear list of support dates for Chromium on various versions of Debian so I can figure out what this might mean?
perhaps one of these?

Maybe we will have to give up on Debian, totally.... & maybe even Linux itself! :(
I, personally, am investigating using BSD instead of Linux, for all of my computing needs - even looking at Haiku as a desktop system. :)
Commercial interests are ruining Linux to my mind..... it just isn't what it used to be. ;)
I have really appreciated the effort put in by the Devuan devs, but if it gets to be too great a task in the future, I'll certainly understand......
I too, truly believe relying on Debian is coming to an end. Thanks to the Devuan team we have had a few extra years! Honestly if it were not for family commitments regarding hardware/software/etc I would already be using _something_ else completely. RIP Debian. damn shame.
indeed.

as always, YMMV

My first distro was Ubuntu 18.04. I have fond memories of her, genuinely, and i owe what I know today to that first experience. But alas, it also made me understand why systemd was so terrible, and regarding Ubuntu she has gone down the shitter the last two major releases. Its a sad, sad state.
your post made me curious to check my old ubuntu discs and the earliest one i still have is Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon but i do remember having all of the earlier ones as well(will probably do a nostalgic boot-up of this disc later on today!)

Cory Doctorow FTW!
There is no way to avoid this Windows style decoration in Evolution on Daedalus. Stay on Beowulf or at the most upgrade to Chimaera.
is it possible that libgtk3-nocsd0 would help?
apt show libgtk3-nocsd0
Package: libgtk3-nocsd0
Version: 3-1
Priority: optional
Section: libs
Source: gtk3-nocsd
Maintainer: Christian Seiler <christian@iwakd.de>
Installed-Size: 49.2 kB
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.4)

Description: Library to disable Gtk+ 3 client side decorations (CSD)
libgtk3-nocsd is a small LD_PRELOADable library used to disable the
client side decorations (CSD) of Gtk+ 3.
.
Since Gtk+ 3.10, its developers added a so-called header bar or custom
title bar. With this and the client-side decoration, the original
title bar and window border provided by the window manager are
disabled by Gtk+. This makes all Gtk+ 3 programs look like alike, but
have different handling from other windows on non-GNOME desktops. Even
worse, this may break some window manager or compositors.
.
Unfortunately, there is no reliable way of turning off CSDs in Gtk+
directly. This library makes this possible.
also found this webpage(for i386? stuff):
ttps://packages.debian.org/buster/i386/libs/libgtk3-nocsd0
judging from the information at this webpage it doesn't solve the header bar issue:

making this post more for documentation than any sort of resolution...sigh...still looking and hoping.
your post made me curious regarding a vanilla Devuan Daedalus live-session and/or pristine install bootup on a wireless capable laptop. the live-session came right up and had wireless connections available(old but not ancient lenovo y580 test machine).
went to the OP's user profile page and to view their posts(ten-posts-at-this-time):

most of the posts are huge/long/tl;dr/eye-glazers
they should probably start their own blog
i like to see my grub menu when booting and so i have it visible and with a short delay before automatically booting
on some systems you use "tab" and others "e"(for-edit) to view and/or change/edit your current grub settings(non-persistent)
on a fresh install, sometimes there is no /etc/default/grub so it is necessary to copy the one stored at /usr/share/grub/default/ and then to edit it as necessary(don't forget to save your changes and to do a "sudo update-grub" for persistence)
my usual grub edits are to remove "quiet" and to add "ipv6.disable=1"
also, to reference the
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="initrd=/install/gtk/initrd.gz"
a DDG search had this as one result:

the unspoken-but-acknowledged-subtext of the conscious decision to go from Beowulf(EOL-20240630) to Daedalus(EOL-2028ish) was/is perhaps subconsciously some denial/reluctance to fully admit his days are indeed numbered(not that any of us knows our exact dates/fates).
again, heartfelt thanks to all who considered and replied!
Note that to get to Daedalus from Beowulf you have to go through Chimaera first and that might be a good place to hang for a year or two . . .
did a fresh install of Daedalus on a new ssd to leave the Beowulf installation unmolested and so didn't do any "upgrading" but understand your point.
???
The changelog for nosystemd.org is at //github.com/muellermartin/nosystemd.org/commits
There do not appear to be any links added today...
it was a modification to my earlier post(added the referenced link instead of creating another post, sorry if that was confusing)
except as per this wikipedia webpage, End of Support for Beowulf is June 30th, 2024
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devuan#Version_history
so Daedalus(and the more-current version of Evolution) were mostly for support status
thanks for all the replies!
trying to keep my 100yr-old father computing for another year
he is using beowulf and evolution mail client version 3.30.5
attempting to switch him to daedalus and evolution 3.42.4
he hates any/all change and the newer evolution is way out there(wtf, "header-bar"?)
any thoughts?
edited for clarity.
have you had video success with any other distributions(thinking hardware-check here)?

tl;dr- yes, anything AI / BOT / CGI / GPT / LLM etc. that isn't explicitly well-labeled as such should be aggressively banned/deleted/removed.

there will come a time when it will be virtually impossible to distinquish between Computer-Generated-ANYTHING and "the-real-thing".
even if we were able to put the genie back in the bottle, it would take millions of humans years to sift through all the false, fake, misinformed, misquoted, misrepresented "stuff" regardless of exactly the who/what/why.
perhaps we are already living in the Skynet Matrix.
