Bon appetite!
There is an opinion that all our illnesses begin from our brain. From this, the result will be determined by our thoughts while eating, by how we look at it.
If you were initially determined that this is harmful, then the result will be...

you log in at init 3 and THEN startx with the then desired DE like startx kde, or startx xfce
In Debian/Devuan there are essentially 2 runlevels - 1 and 2 (aka 3,4,5). This was also a surprise for me at the time.
@Альтоид
First of all, I apologize if I accidentally scratched you with my joke (there’s an emoticon there), I didn’t mean that at all.
I just downloaded these packages and installed them in my Daedalus.
This procedure is probably easier for me to do because of the full-fledged DE. There is a package manager that opens them by clicking in the file manager window, can simply do a test without installation, open a file for viewing or a window of a dependent package.
In the end, everything was installed, I stopped the network-manager service, started the wicd service and everything worked.
I don’t know if this is necessary. Just showed one of the options.
Regards.
P.S.In addition to the packages in the link, a couple of python packages from the Daedalus repository were required/
I have used WiCD for quite a few years now, quickly became second nature to do so.
Since the guy didn’t deign to answer the question “What to do in 3 months?”...
Wicd taken from here
https://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/w/wicd/
works on Daedalus out of the box. Look at package dependencies, any python...

In the desktop boot window options there should be a choice of session type - kde, xfce, etc. If autoload is enabled and the kde is loaded, just logout.
KDE is a complete working environment that allows you to configure everything from your control center. With a more or less modern computer it is very effective.
A slightly more radical method if you have a desktop.
Usually there are free sata ports on its motherboard.
Used hard drives don't cost much and are often just lying around on a shelf. We install this disk, further as desired.
I did just that, the computer is old, the virtual machines on it are slow.
@pcalvert
You finally found the reason for the denial of access to the repositories, respect!
As for Wi-Fi, if we are talking about connecting only to a home router, then you can use wpa_supplicant, available in any distribution.
If necessary, there is a GUI for it.
Set it up once and forget it.
2-3 months ago I had a situation with my laptop heating up.
It was configured in such a way that when the lid was closed it should turn off.
This worked every other time, sometimes with the lid closed, it stopped on the terminal screen and continued the shutdown process when the lid was opened.
One day, after viewing public FB pages in a Chrome-like browser (Iridium or Brave, I don’t remember), I closed the lid and put the laptop away. After about 15 minutes I noticed that the LEDs were glowing, the fan was running full blast, the screen was black, and the case was heating up.
The thermal interface of the processor was previously tested with a Lenovo test disk; the processor temperature under 10 minutes of stress remained at 72 degrees.
I took out the battery, waited until it cooled down, and deleted everything from this browser.
No consequences, everything works.
I don’t know, in my opinion the reason is more likely in the browser, a Java script or something similar.
@ralph.ronnquist
Thank you very much.
I suspected that if we did not specify a specific address, another program would specify it.
You've made things clear.
Regards.

Considering the geography and the fact that deb.devuan.org is located in Germany, it is possible and makes sense to indicate the specific address of the nearest mirror.
But this is the decision of the user himself.
@deepforest
Action 'stop' is meaningless for this init script ... (warning)
This is the reaction of the kmod service to an attempt by some other service (program) to stop it.
Kmod is a service for loading kernel modules, and stopping it on a running machine is pointless.
Perhaps there is confusion with the pid of the processes, perhaps something else.
Forget this matter...
Regards.
@Altoid
so I will stick with Devuan Beowulf and WiCD.
Okay, it's your choice and non-negotiable.
But Beowulf support will end in 3 months and then what?
Just information, the ark archiver in TDE and KDE5 supports a password when archived “out of the box”

"merged" in sources.list transfers the work of selecting a mirror to amprolla.
Am I wrong?
And second, of course, you can specify a specific address in sources.list, having first checked it.

It's a pity that it's not still here.
I don't recommend using this solution on Chimaera because Network Manager isn't quite working right
Network Manager worked fine on two of my computers with different Wi-Fi cards running Chimaera.
And before that with Debian, starting with potato.
(The choice is determined by the DE Trinity applet for Network Manager)
P.S. I looked at the latest activity on github, connman -10 years ago, Network Manager - yesterday.
@alexkemp
Thank you.
Yes, there were such messages. Once upon a time I came across notes from a hacker who hacked the site because there were “./” characters in the page code.
I am an ordinary user, it is difficult for me to judge who can and will hack a home computer with a dynamic IP.
Regards.
I also started with 486, dos and Win 3.1.
On the Internet exclusively under Linux since the days of dial-up. Because even without the Internet, two schoolchildren’s sons managed to bring viruses into Win through their friends’ floppy disks.
And for more than 20 years, I have not come across a single mention that any Linux user’s computer was hacked from the network.
Maybe someone knows such cases?
But you can hack anything, including any smartphone.
It’s really expensive and in the case of an ordinary user I’m afraid the cost of hacking won’t pay off.

You see where issues may arise if you don't include security updates?
Honestly, I have not encountered any problems with kernel security in my entire life with Linux (more than 20 years)
Yesterday in the next thread I talked about the successful update to Daedalus.
This is a working machine, where I compiled the kernel for my own hardware and without the support of apparmor, tomoe (from memory, not sure of the correct name), etc..
Regards.
This is a computer for experiments.
In the synaptic settings, stable-update is selected, Linux 6.1.0-17-amd64 x86_64 in the stable-security repository.
Do you think this has anything to do with network problems?

Our preferences are to some extent determined by playback devices.
It is impossible to listen to classical music on a boombox; you simply cannot hear most of it.
I have almost all the CDs of our pop group, so the later the recording, the higher the average recording level and the smaller the dynamic range.
Adapted to reality, everything thumps at the same volume.
