Due to some other reason I tried to reinstall dbus and the result as

$ aptitude reinstall -s dbus
The following packages will be REINSTALLED:
  dbus
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 reinstalled, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
E: Can't find a source to download version '1.10.18-1+devuan2.3' of 'dbus:amd64'
After unpacking 0 B will be used.
Would download/install/remove packages.

and also

  $ apt-cache policy dbus
dbus:
  Installed: 1.10.18-1+devuan2.3
  Candidate: 1.10.18-1+devuan2.3
  Version table:
 *** 1.10.18-1+devuan2.3 100

     1.10.8-1+devuan1 500
        500 http://pkgmaster.devuan.org/merged ceres/main amd64 Packages.

any clue please or I have some local problem.

You hit on the neil. I restrained myself from asking those Q's. fsmithred, in my understanding some glich was
in amprola for ascii. Ideally ascii , -security & -updates have forked all pkg's, other than devuanised one,
from corresponding debian stretch repo's. Thease are empty due to some problem. So there was no
update && upgrade since last few weeks. Jessie( I don't have now) & ceres has no problem.
In no way pkg's from stretch security automatically should flow to -proposed-updates. The same were followed
for jessie from day one. Testing amprola & others will make repo's in order soon.

I can follow main three repo's for regular update && upgrade like old days.Packages from -backport have
ver. no. as 'bpo' & can be used with some salt. Have no idea about 'proposed'. I can assume that pkg's flow
from experimental to ceres to ascii after 10/20 days without major bug. Hope you will put some light on this.

"~deb9u1" is upgrade one of stretch pushed through stretch security (decleared on their site).That is why it is
upgradable. Other suits have not received updates, but only stable. Securiry patch will be provided only
on next upgrade of chromium for buster & sid (ceres).
You know that if chromium will be devuanised then 'devuan1' will be added next & ready for automatic update.
Any correction will be helpfull for devuan users.

The 'synaptic > origin' also is good for checking installed & available versions for group of packages. But it is
valid for 'sources lists' at that point of time. Any change & update would alter the information again. It is
not possible to know the source of installed pkg's. Change suite name to stretch-backport,update & check, don't
upgrade. Then revert back to original.Others suites are used for testing & on purpose as done by @fsmithred.

@fsmithred chromium-60.0.3112.78-1 was in buster,sid,ceres & @ogis1975 chromium-60.0.3112.78-1~deb9u1 from
stretch security which is higher version & has security patch. Now ascii-proposed-updates has that security
update (ascii-security?). To get latest version we have to activate all suites for regular update && upgrade.

#4 Re: Other Issues » [SOLVED] pkexec authenticates without password » 2017-09-04 17:57:18

Food for reading, man polkit & pkexec.      Late in the party.    Checked my ascii & ceres systems with DE's. Removed policykit-1-gnome & install lxpolkit ( ascii with lxde & xfce4). gparted & synaptic can't be launced from menu, but from terminal. In terminal it uses no graphical authentication. Same for mate-polkit (ceres with mate). In both system reinstalled policykit-1-gnome & reboot. Graphical authentication is back for both programs and also for mounting devices from file managers. 'pkexec' is provided by synaptic & gparted.'gksu' is maual install. Authentication via pkexec routed through 'polkit-agent-helper-1' which is provided by DE's. Without DM probably you need policykit-1. Different DE's have their own implementation. Should DM's & xorg run by users?

#5 Re: Documentation » Install eudev in ascii » 2017-08-28 17:52:03

@fsmithred,from your post on dng mailing list I tried live-usb of "ascii_oblx_eudv_oprc-20170813_2222".
That was working fine only with failsafe mode.I was not confident of udevd-daemon & lot of udev files.
Now installed eudev and some task-** packeges from experimental repo on my ceres system.

Here also this is working fine with usb,xserver-xorg-core,upower and cdrom ( not working earlier).
Shall try to remove systemed stuff from system. I have not found any eudev files after install.
This is long due move by dev's.Hope eudev will be pushed to ceres soon."openrc" is in ascii & ceres main.

Thanks for your concern. True this is not right. I have only ascii, -updates, -security & don't mix repo.
I am fine with present rsyslog & waiting for update. Shall try other two for enhanced functionality.

I was tempted for the security updates only for forked firefox-esr & linux-image- as those were not
available from ascii-security. Checked for any systemd intrusion other than libsystemd0 which is already
in my ascii. Those two pakg's are being most used. I use ascii & ceres knowing well their implications.
As a general user I shall not try for the same and wait for better. Ver. no. will not be problem for forked
debian packages. You would appreciate that in unix/linux world declared exposer has its own importance
at least for stable server/production system. Regular updates of any repo will be healthy sign for a distro.

@garyz.dev1-
My system was updated from devuan jessie, which was a clean install from devuan DVD installer. I only have
devuan ascii-updates & ascii-security, no backport or proposed.What is other choice? Dist-upgrade have given

rsyslog : Depends: liblognorm2 (>= 1.1.2) which is a virtual package.
State: installed (8.4.2-1+deb8u2), upgrade available (8.14.0-2+devuan1.0)

Devuan community are really helpful.I know the dev's are pre-occupied and updates will be available when ready.
Devuan security updates probably come from Debian Security Advisory (DSA) published on debian main page.
These updates covers related CVE's for debian packages like firefox-esr, linux (kernel), chromium-browser,
postgresql ( @leloft ) etc. for respective suits.
I incorporated debian security repo. in my sources.list as

deb http://security.debian.org/ stretch/updates main contrib non-free

and received few updates also last night including above first two packages. Ensured that does not include
devuan packages.This may not be the right way, but for time being ascii users may like this path.

Hi,

My devuan  ascii also not getting any updates since last few days. This may be fine , but I am really
worried about " ascii-security".According to DSA , few packages need to be upgraded for my system
( firefox-esr etc.). Apart from " rsyslog " my system is also stable for now.
