Just in case somebody (like myself some years down the road) runs into problems with nvidia drivers:
- uninstall everything nvidia/nouveau, glx-alternatives, cuda, do not forget "libggml0-backend-cuda" if you have "llama.cpp" installed. any of these will cause problems with the driver installation.
- reboot. ensure all kernel modules (nvidia/nouveau) are not loaded. If they are: do "rmmod <all the modules>" till they are gone.
- get https://developer.download.nvidia.com/c … -1_all.deb and install it.
- install "nvidia-open". this will install everything for kernel 7.2.12 and newer
- install "nvtop" and "libggml0-backend-cuda" (if you have "llama.cpp" installed)
- reboot
Now Xlibre/Xorg should be running again. run "nvidia-smi" to check if it really worked. "gpu-unlock-ada" works just fine with 615.71.10 on a RTX4060, just in case.

Keep in mind: never ever use the NVIDIA*.run package that's offered as a "one lucky solution for everybody" - it will cost you dearly. Always remove everyting nvidia/nouveau irst and reboot.

Hope you find this useful - it cost me half a day yesterday to untangle a broken installation due to diver/package/*.run mismatch.
