@fsmithred: sorry, the link to xlibre you posted yesterday is not working as expected. That page can be read but contains severe problems. The sources file is bad, Suits and Components is mixed up. And when I try to change my "working" sources to what is displayed there with corrections I get "no release file found".

What works forme is this older information:

Types: deb
URIs: https://xlibre-deb.github.io/devuan
Suites: excalibur
Components: main
Architectures: amd64
Signed-By: /etc/apt/keyrings/xlibre-deb.asc
Enabled: yes

No updates for a while but no errors on apt update.

Not working, meanwhile disabled again:

Types: deb
URIs: https://xlibre-debian.github.io/devuan
# Suites: excalibur
Suites: stable
Components: main
Architectures: amd64

Enabled: no

@fredbird67: I just tried extrepo to install xlibre, and it didn't work. The install command gave me an error message about an undefined subroutine. I also figured out that I probably need to run 'extrepo enable xlibre' and it added a file to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ that points to the wrong (unmaintained) xlibre repository.

The correct way to get xlibre in devuan is to follow the instructions here, provided by NexusSfan:
https://xlibre-debian.github.io/

That way you'll get updates as more things get fixed.

My personal recommendation is XLibre. Given how the Wayland devs are refusing to allow any updates to be made to X11, XLibre was created last year as a fork, in protest. XLibre has already received thousands of bugfixes and patches over the past year, and is on track to emerge as the clearly superior competitor to Wayland, no matter how hard they try to shove Wayland down our throats when we don't want it (I don't, anyway).

To get XLibre on Devuan, you'll need to install extrepo. Once you've done that, you'll want to run "sudo apt update", and then run "sudo extrepo install xlibre".
