I tried to download the package libusb from the Trisquel Aramo repository
and installed it.

Do not install libusb from Trisquel. It's ubuntu-based. Vdev provides a concrete version of eudev.
You can switch between them via apt:

apt-get install eudev libeudev1

or the other way around:

apt-get install vdev libudev1-compat

On the other hand, udev is a transitional package that can be removed from the system.

You don't need any *-dbgsym package. The package libusb-1.0-0 is installable from packages.gnuinos.org both with eudev and vdev, and it's the same as in devuan.

But trying to install them I got those messages:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
eudev-dbgsym: depends on eudev (= 3.2.12-4+deb12u1) but 3.2.12-4+deb12u1gnuinos5u1 should be installed

This means we found the culprit.
libusb is the cause.

was able to print succesfully on an old 970CXI Deskjet that bought maybe 25-26 year ago just with
localhost:631 > add printer > local printer (970cx) > connecton (insert the found out Device URI: usb://HP/DESKJET%20970C?serial=ES08S1D183LM) > select driver from list > HP > Deskjet 970c > complete setup and options

it would print instantly when issued command (but has no more or dried ink).

it is not elegant mode to add printer, but it functions.

I tried as fsmithred said to let hplip detect a USB printer.
after entering all the data it did not take it, but the programme shut down and I couldn´t open it anymore.
I had to restart the system.

In localhost I tried to do the same and it was possible to add a new printer.
I entered in hplip my printer and saved everything.
then I tried to print and there came up a message:

Unable to initialize USB access via libusb, libusb error -99 (Other error)

That seems the be the problem.
I checked In Synaptic that libusb is installed. But there are many other libusb packages.

actually had a problem with the usb cable (amon other issues) sometime ago;

it really can be usb cable can be somewhat faulty; after changing the usb cable to another one, anchors away.

(there was other issue with setting up the kprinter initially over usb instead of ethernet/wifi on windows; but thats a whole other issue and specific epson-software related;)

Open hplip. It says no installed devices found.
Click on Setup Device.
Select first checkbox for USB and click Next.
If it does not find the printer, click on Back and then on Advanced Options.
Then check the Manual Discovery box where you can enter the USB device ID. (and then Next)

FWIW, cups still lists my HP4L that I bought in 1995. (May it rest in peace.)

If you do want to set it up as a network printer, the Host that hplip is looking for is probably the IP address of the printer. I don't know how you get that or set that - check the printer manual.

If you really want to do it with a WORKGROUP, you need to set up the printer on a Windows network.

EDIT: the cups interface is somewhat borked;
previously it needed sometimes to be amended manually via settings; lately it seems that you could no longer manually edit it or that it gets overriden if you set other options;

i have used this guide here in the past to get cups to function more reliably on a variety of computers; it is an older post, but it still could provide useful info you might wanna test if it makes a differeence.
