Is not just a decrease in competency, but also a problem of the "entry cost" for the knowledge and the knowledge not being passed along in an efficient manner, case in point is debian packaging, to anyone who wants to package some piece of software for use in debian (and derivates) the whole debian packaging process will seem like some sort arcane magic burdened by bureaucracy after reading the debian maintainer guide once...

There is always hope, I myself reached the requisite age mentioned by golinux not long ago, lol, so it's time soon for me to step up and be of real assistance with Devuan. There will be others. almost 100 distros listed on Distrowatch that do not use systemd. And Xlibre has stepped up to renew X11 so buggy wayland won't be forced on us.

Linux was always about rebels, corporate interests trying to wipe out choice just spawns new generations of rebels, who are especially pissed that the aforementioned corporate interests are sticking their noses into our beloved OS'es.

I beg to differ.

The only Debian packages compatible with Devuan are the ones you will find in the Devuan repositories.
No consideration needed, it has already been considered by our devs.

Now ...
If you see a package in the Debian repositories but not in the Devuan repositories it is either because a) it is being sanitised* or b) because it is not compatible due to systemd requirements.
* something which can be a truly time consuming endeavour for our devs.

Then you have *.deb packages which are not in the Debian or Devuan repositories.
In all probability, there are very sound reasons for that being so.

Those are the ones that "shouldn't be used without careful consideration" or not at all.
