@stultumanto I agree with you on that. holding back firefox updates won't solve this problem. Librewolf is the best answer I believe.

Unless something has changed very recently, The ESR version of Firefox included with Debian/Devuan never "auto-updates" the way mainline Firefox does. It used to display a message that said updates were being "managed by your organization," but this confused people, so they removed it.

Putting a hold on the package with apt-mark means it will never be updated, not even manually. For an application exposed to the Internet such as a web browser, this can be very dangerous. You won't get patches even for serious vulnerabilities.

Librewolf better,. firefox has all sorts of crap enabled by default including pocket.

Most likely.
I don't "gui" system maintenance and hardly know synaptic. A more correct first reply might have been "Yes, this should do the trick.".

Apparently they removed the option from the settings menu a while back. Preferences settings in about:config don't do anything. So I put a "lock" option on the package via the package manager, and hope that will do the trick.

What is the "correct" way to disable firefox auto-update?
