This has worked for me beautifully - muchisimas gracias! Just what I was looking for.

I wondered what to do about the qt5 programs now that the gtk2 platform theme is gone (as well as the old qt Cleanlooks style which I also liked very much) - tried to use Kvantum, it has great nonflat themes even out of the box but some applications simply insist on using the Fusion theme (looking at you, xnview). Now I could give it a warmer color palette via qt5ct and it would work for everything and fit most of my GTK themes somewhat, but you can only do so much with Fusion...

All I did was install the deb package, then I was able to choose the gtk2 style in qt5ct as before. So now everything looks great, aside from the unfortunate GTK4 stuff, but that's another story (that I also mostly got covered with nestort's themes).

For good measure...

NO_AT_BRIDGE=1 QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=gtk2 QT_PLATFORMTHEME=gtk2 QT_PLATFORM_PLUGIN=gtk2 GTK_OVERLAY_SCROLLING=0 exec startxfce4 --with-ck-launch

Replace startxfce4 with any other DE or WM of your choosing. The NO_AT_BRIDGE=1 is needed if you're on GTK3 and don't like those extra D-Bus "accessibility" things from GN*ME. GTK_OVERLAY_SCROLLING=0 keeps the scrollbar always visible, even away from focus (never understood why this wasn't the default). --with-ck-launch for the ConsoleKit2 enjoyers (you are still using a part of Systemd with Elogind).

More success, found a .deb package for qt5gtk2 on the opensuse build service, booted up a live-session of Devuan excalibur and installed, works great! Works with the gt6gtk2 package using the same export command for both which is export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5gtk2

Package is a bit dated but works fine, the original author has some newer source code, perhaps the package needs to be be updated, but it's working fine in excalibur. All the QT apps look so much nicer with my beautiful GTK theme.

https://build.opensuse.org/projects/hom … g/binaries

So for the upcoming excalibur, the qt5-gtk2-platform theme is going bye-bye, The current package might still work, haven't tried it yet.

But going forward I and hopefully some folks smarter than me may have a solution in the works.

The qt6gtk2 package I mentioned above also has a version for trixie, that I have tested on Devuan excalibur and it works fine.

The same author has a qt5 version as well, qt5gtk2, no .deb package yet though, but I did a local make/install from source and it works great in daedalus, just not in excalibur/trixie yet. So hopefully I can get some real ninjas to take a look and maybe fix it. The fellows who packaged the .debs for the qt6gtk2 had to make some changes to get it to work for trixie, i'm hoping they can work that magic for this package as well.

So going forward it's a nice solution as those programs are currently maintained even if they aren't in Debian.

This is a drop-in solution, unlike some others that use a GUI and you have to manually adjust colors.

First install qt5-gtk2-platformtheme from the repo. For QT6 you will need to download and install the package qt6gtk2 that is appropriate for your platform, you can find them here:
https://software.opensuse.org//download … ge=qt6gtk2

Next, create (or modify) .xsessionrc in your users home folder, and add these lines:
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=gtk2 then save and close.

That's it. You may need to logout or reboot for changes to take effect.
