			<description><![CDATA[<p>Sometime, I don&#039;t know when, something changed, and now when I plug in my Android mobile <strong>(with a correctly functioning USB cable)</strong> and select USB tethering on the option list on the mobile, I get <span class="bbc">usb0:</span> created instead of <span class="bbc">eth1:</span>.</p><p>To enable tethering, I now just do:</p><p><span class="bbc">dhclient usb0</span></p>]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[<p>As mentioned at <a href="https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-RNDIS-Removal-EOY2024" rel="nofollow">https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-RND … al-EOY2024</a></p><p><a href="https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/usb.git/commit/?h=rndis-removal&amp;id=5eeb59deed1b56b8979516e5cb313ae40d059a72" rel="nofollow">https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke … e40d059a72</a></p><p>there still seems to be a push by a kernel maintainer to get module <span class="bbc">rndis_host</span> disabled and eventually removed, when <span class="bbc">rndis_host</span> is needed for tethering a desktop via USB to a mobile phone to get internet access for the desktop if Ethernet / WiFi is not available.</p><p>Although my mobile handset isn&#039;t particularly new, it is running Android 13 and provides tethering which causes the kernel to load <span class="bbc">rndis_host</span>, and creates an <span class="bbc">eth1</span> entry which can be made to work simply via:</p><div class="codebox"><pre><code>ifdown eth0 &amp;&amp; ifconfig eth1 up &amp;&amp; dhclient eth1</code></pre></div><p>Removing this capability just seems to be completely counter-productive while there are devices that can only tether via <span class="bbc">rndis_host</span>.</p>]]></description>
