well, it did not give any error messages so I thought there must be something wrong with the installation.
reinstalled everything and made sure all the engines appear in the engine window.
now it works.

p.s. this is the second or third time an app works differently in Devuan from the way I am used to it in Arch. probably my expectations are playing tricks to me.

Please post the exact, full error message that appears in the terminal from which /usr/games/scid is run after that pop-up window appears.

Run this command as your normal user (not as root):

echo $PATH

It needs to contain /usr/games for the binaries to be found.

For example, does this launch the games for you:

/usr/games/xphalanx

Use dpkg -L to list the contents of the packages and use echo $PATH to check if the directory containing the game binaries is included.

Hint: /usr/games/.

Which desktop are you using and how exactly do you log in?

Hello everybody!

Installed 'scid' plus 'phalanx' and 'toga' but still get 'phalanx or toga not found' message when try to play a tactical game.

Any ideas what else is missing?
