i remeber i had this problem some years ago with ubntu mate on an embedded device
i had to disable network-manager to fix this

cause #4 looks like it might be relevant here.

tried further with my little knowledge and iwevent
seems the issue starts with 

21:54:58.604083   wlan0    New Access Point/Cell address:Not-Associated

and the Atheros had less reconnects over time

I reconfigured the TP-Link massively and with many different options
mode b/g/n doesn't matter
changed the channel
disabled Qss (TP-Links WPS name)
and tried that all in 20/40 mHz and 20 mHz
(Didn't touch that AP for years cause it worked fine with Win7 and Ascii before)

And Android was streaming videos during that, except for the AP restarts, so it is possible to have a stable connection

Update:
Booted the Atheros with an older Kali and way less reconnects (but something named cfg80211 whining in dmesg about DFS Master region: unset)
I can't explain myself how Ascii could keep a stable connection with what i see now mad

I have 2 Laptops with a strange shared problem:
Every 1 to 30 minutes the wlan0 connection drops.

HW 0: Acer Aspire 5724g, i3-CPU, Ati-GPU, Qualcomm-Wifi card
HW 1: Lenovo y500, i7-CPU, Nvidia-GPU, Intel-Wifi card
(shouldn't be a driver problem with the cards)

HW 0 had Ascii and was upgraded to Beowulf  (WiFi was stable with Ascii)
HW 1 had a fresh Beowulf install
(both with XFCE, WiCD and updates installed)

Used APs: TP-Link TL-WA901N (HW-Gen 2) and AVM FRITZ!Box 7362 SL
(different BSSIDs, password, channels, distances) (and streaming devices without errors while the Laptops does reconnects)

I tried reading dmesg and logs but no hint for a problem, only these sudden attempts to connect wlan0
