I am happy with apt autoremove, its works fine in ASCII and Beowulf.

Be fair Giorgos, irritated you may be on HoaS but you shouldn't blame it on Devuan; in my view, this forum, as well as the distro, is quite well maintained.

I found the autoremove is pretty useful for a lot of lib packages.
For gui's and desktop interfaces.. well lets just say some are more bloated and chalked full of dependencies than others.
I have sheer broken cinnamon on mint because of this.
I've also ended up booting to console all thanks to auto remove .

I can confirm all of the above. When in a mood HoaS can be an equal opportunity offender who "blesses" many forums with his presence. His track record on this forum to date has actually been fairly benign compared to what has happened elsewhere. I also know that there can be no offense if none is taken. Let it be like water on a duck's back. I'm all for "free speech" but if things get too disruptive, there is always the big, red "time out" button.

So that was because cabextract was removed then, I presume.

Looks like a circular dependency to me, APT isn't infallible.

The aptitude command auto-autoremoves so it must be "trustworthy", whether the user is also "trustworthy" is another question entirely...

What's your take?
Do you blindfold trust it?

Last couple of months, it gave me some questionable results.
I'll give you an example:

1) I ran "apt autoremove" (as root) -> no results.
2) I installed playonlinux.
3) It trigger the installation of cabextract, python-wxgtk3.0 and python-wxversion.

4) after playing some days, I uninstalled it.
5) I gave "apt autoremove" (and answered "Y") and uninstalled the packages cabextract and libmspack0.

As one can see:
a) It failed to detect the python-wxgtk3.0 and python-wxversion packages and
b) It uninstalled libmspack0 that neither installed by playonlinux, nor was previously detected by "apt autoremove".

Ehm...I fell that I'm missing something!

PS. ASCII is my 1st Devuan installation. I was on Debian till the Jessie release.
