If random it could possibly be a hardware problem? You could try booting from a live distro of another type and see if sound functions normally. That would rule out hardware I believe. Good luck.

Hy Everyone. English is not my language, please excuse any mistake.
Previously I had problems with a sound card, this is another card, another pc, another topic.

I am in Ascii/Beowulf .... from a week to now sound comes and go randomly. I don't use pulseaudio (previously I used it, but with identical results)

I had discovered that when sound is gone, if I run speaker-test after a couple of minutes sound return. I have sound for some time and after this again its gone.

root@sivakalyana:/home/sprema# cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xfdff8000 irq 24

root@sivakalyana:/home/sprema# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC888 Analog [ALC888 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC888 Digital [ALC888 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

root@sivakalyana:/home/sprema# lsmod | grep snd
snd_hda_codec_realtek 81920 1
snd_hda_codec_generic 65536 1 snd_hda_codec_realtek
snd_hda_intel 32768 7
snd_hda_codec 94208 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_realtek
snd_hda_core 57344 4 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_realtek
snd_hwdep 16384 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm 81920 4 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_core
snd_timer 28672 2 snd_pcm
snd 61440 19 snd_hda_intel,snd_hwdep,snd_hda_codec,snd_timer,snd_hda_codec_generic,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_pcm
soundcore 16384 1 snd

Anyone have some idea?
