Required is: mate-tweak, just found this in https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic. … 665026c41d

There you have the option to disable the windows going to full screen (just go the German term Fenstereinrasten, disable).

Also works on Beowulf = Mate 1.20.

settings > window manager > advanced

Note it is even worse in beowulf.

Update: after working a while with the PC, I have learned that when you move a window towards the panel, as long as the mouse is not leaving the window, the size remains. When the mouse leaves the window and enters the area of the top panel, the window is maximized.

Can this behaviour/option/feature be stopped/disabled somehow?

I have not experienced this behavior on my mate/ascii/slim install. Other then suggesting slim I have nothing.

Are you using marco as window manager? I use marco but do not have mate-tweak installed which allows some other choices with window control I have no experience with.

If you're using xfce, that wonderful magic is hidden on the "accessibility" tab of the "window manager tweaks" setting; the option to "automatically tile windows when moving towards the screen edge".

Devuan ASCII and Mate desktop with LightDM: I have found an annoying feature of the new Mate 1.16 vs Mate 1.8. Whenever I move a window around on the screen to position it, and the window hits the top panel, the window is blown up to full screen covering everything else.

What are the keywords to search for disabling this feature (for me its actually a bug)?
