When the repos were new, backports had the wrong priority. That's been fixed. Twice. Once for packages.devuan.org and then once for pkgmaster.devuan.org. I don't know what the setting is in the repo, but apparently, it's possible to make a mistake. I like to keep backports pinned or disabled (commented out in sources.list), just in case.

If you want to check the priorities of whatever repos you have enabled, run

apt-cache policy

without any package name.

Coming from Ubuntu if I want try to get a more recent version of a program than what's in Synaptic, I try to find a ppa [Personal Package Archive] for it. Usually it works and I can use recent version that might have bug fixes etc. In Devuan Jessie the default version for InkScape is .48 i think they are up .9x now. I wondered if there's a way I could get a more recent version?

Also I wasn't sure about this so wanted to ask...can I use a .deb or a repository from Debian? Or does Devuan need a .deb and repositories tweaked specifically for it?

Super stable distro, thank you for making it available.
