I eventually found a mention of this problem, which seems to be associated with the mime database. They give a workround :-</p><p><a href="http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mail/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3644" rel="nofollow">http://www.thewildbeast.co.uk/claws-mai … gi?id=3644</a></p><p>Which also refers to :-</p><p><a href="https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=211484" rel="nofollow">https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=211484</a></p><p>The solution given is to remove <span class="bbc">~/.local/share/mime/packages/user-extension-html.xml</span></p><p>and then run</p><div class="codebox"><pre><code>update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime</code></pre></div><p>There is a suggestion that removing this entry from the mime database might affect some other software, so it is best to move the file somewhere safe, rather than just deleting it. I have my own sub-directory &quot;src&quot; and have put it there.</p><div class="codebox"><pre><code>cd ~/src/claws
mv ~/.local/share/mime/packages/user-extension-html.xml .
update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime </code></pre></div><p>I don&#039;t know whether it was necessary, but I restarted Claws and then HTML messages could be viewed OK.</p><p>Geoff</p>]]></description>
