An even easier solution than switching to gnewsense would be to avoid upgrading wheezy. Do they have any plans for a jessie release? And do they offer non-free wireless firmware? That would be a deal-breaker for a lot of people.

Here's what's in the current download from gnewsense.org:

$ uname -a
Linux gnewsense 3.2.0-4gnewsense1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.57-3+deb7u1gnewsense1 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ cat /etc/issue
gNewSense GNU/Linux 4 \n \l

$ cat /etc/debian_version
7.5

$ dpkg -l |grep systemd
ii  libsystemd-daemon0:amd64                     44-11+deb7u4                               amd64        systemd utility library
ii libsystemd-login0:amd64 44-11+deb7u4 amd64 systemd login utility library

There are quite a few others too, if you check around, one such is AntiX, which I have been using for several years.

Initially, Debian refused to allow init freedom, that was when this project was started, it took a while to separate out systemd reliance from the original systemd Debian, & in that time, Debian capitulated & allowed the use of other init systems, but systemd is getting into too many upstream projects that have nothing to do with starting up a system, & it is causing quite a few headaches for those wanting rid of it.

Hi,

by dropping init-freedom debian has chosen the wrong way.
So, it's good that you departed from debian.

But while distro hopping I happened to find out something which made me wonder:

You are not the first ones developing a 'debian with init-freedom' fork:
gNewSense = debian + init-freedom (SysV) + fully free software

It's initially released 10 years ago and the project is still active.

you = debian + init-freedom (SysV)

What made you building up a 'debian with init-freedom' fork project from the scratch, instead of joining the gNewSense project?
