- Introduction
- New in this Release
+ Rootless startx uses libseat1
+ Sway (wayland) GUI without elogind
xserver-xorg-core now uses libseat1 to control rootless startx and access to
input and video devices. This has several advantages, the most significant being
that it removes the dbus dependency from xserver-xorg-core.
libseat1 can use either seatd or elogind as a
backend. If you need to override the default choice (autodiscovery), use the
LIBSEAT_BACKEND environment variable.
If you are using seatd as the backend, ensure the user is a member of the video group.
This is only relevant to running startx as a user, xorg run as root by a display
manager is unaffected.
### Wayland GUI without elogind
Users can now enjoy a wayland desktop without elogind by installing
libpam-ck-connector, sway and seatd.
Ensure the relevant user is a member of the `video` group and run sway from
the terminal.
. . . . . .. . . .
I tested several of the previous Devuan releases. Here are my results:
* Memtest launches and runs:
- devuan_daedalus_5.0.0_amd64_minimal-live.iso
- devuan_beowulf_3.1.1_amd64_desktop-live.iso
- devuan_jessie_1.0.0_amd64_desktop-live.iso
* /live/memtest not found:
- devuan_daedalus_5.0.0_amd64_desktop-live.iso
- devuan_chimaera_4.0.3_amd64_desktop-live.iso
- devuan_ascii_2.0.0_amd64_desktop-live.iso
When I mounted the isos, I see that in the /live directory, the memtest app really is missing, so it's not a menu option error. Maybe something went wrong when the iso image was created?
]]>where I can select forbidden devices like cdrom, usb, wake on lan (or something like that)
maybe you have that setting as well.
Generally I haven't used secureboot since I found a way to turn it off, so I'm no expert.
]]>first of all, sorry for my bad english
After upgrading to Daedalus, i've encountered some problems
1. Speaker always muted, and picked the wrong audio device, i have to configure it with pavucontrol manually everytime and it always reverts back to muted everytime i login to desktop
2. Xfceterm slow response after opened for a while,
it runs fine after i open it, but if i leave it open and then i type something, it doesnt immediately show, there's a delay like i run out of memory, i'm pretty sure it's not the problem since any other applications run just fine
thanks
]]>I'd guess the cpu is getting too hot or you may have corrosion on the mainboard (ram or ram slots), or the ram sticks are failing.
It's a shame when hardware goes this way, oxidation is like a cancer, it slowly spreads.
I've lost expensive hardware (motherboard, graphics card and ram) this way living in a seaside paradise.
memtests, short but deep...
Test 2 [Address test, own address]
Same as test 1 but the testing is done using multiple CPUS, if applicable.
Test 9 [Modulo 20, Random pattern]
Using the Modulo-X algorithm should uncover errors that are not detected by moving inversions due to cache and buffering interference with the algorithm.
But I think, it looks like a trolling from Was2023.
IMHO he tries to promote Russian Alt Linux, which is IMHO not good for DevOps because not popular like Debian.
]]>... set sudo to execute certain commands ...
Indeed.
But I was wanting to avoid adding to my overpopulated sudoers.d directory and thought that maybe there was a way to get that done within conky for cases like this.
Guess that will have to do. 8^)
I'll test it and see how it goes.
Edit: that did it - works as advertised.
Thank you very much for your input.
Best,
A.
]]>@czeekaj
For wireless I'd use this.
Had a look, will put it into the list of possible replacements.
@pcalvert
Did you try connman ...
No, not yet.
The thing is that I am still on the fence as to whether to go through with the Beowulf -> Chimaera, among other things because I am not sure I want to suffer the new version of xfce4, more so with the upgrade itself being rather problematic.
I think I'll wait this transition out for a while longer.
Thank you both for your input, much appreciated. 8^)
Best,
A.
