There are times when I need to clear DNS cache quickly as well ... which is not possible if you rely on an upstream resolver. So I generally always install "bind" on my systems and configure it as a local resolver. This article will provide a solid foundation on how to do that :

How To Configure BIND as a Private Network DNS Server on Ubuntu 14.04
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/ … untu-14-04

Then, when I need to flush the DNS resolver cache, it's as easy as :

# rndc flush

Cheers,
--K

So I wanted to clear my DNS cache and did a search for how to do it. So I found to run either:

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart or sudo service networking restart (from here). When I ran them (I ran both) I got a message that it was deprecated. The exact message on both was:

Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not re-enable some interfaces ... (warning).
Reconfiguring network interfaces...done.

So I have two questions: 1) Did one, or both, of these commands work or not? 2) Is there a better way to clear the DNS cache?
