It&#039;s cost them their share in the desktop market and likely explains the increase in the Linux desktop market share. </p><p>World desktop market share in 2010<br />Windows: 93%<br />Linux:&#160; &#160; 0.75%</p><p>World desktop market share in 2020<br />Windows: 76%<br />Linux:&#160; &#160; 1.93%</p><p>World desktop market share in 2024<br />Windows: 72%<br />Linux:&#160; &#160; 4.45%</p><p>According to OSTechNix (below), &quot;Linux may reach a 5% market share in 2024.&quot; Some think, &#039;That&#039;s great!&#039; Some think, &#039;That&#039;s gonna clog the forums with appliance users!&#039; </p><p>The last link below is after a Linux market share uptick in 2006 and, as quoted in the article, didn&#039;t cause concern.
